Travel time from Vegas to Sand Mtn??
#1
Do you take 95 to 361 or do you take 95 the entire way to US 50?
How is the terrain? Desert floor or mountains? Or a lot of both?
What will the Temps be like in Sept along the route and at Sand Mtn?
Are there any service stations along the way, I know that is a pretty desolate route.
Thanks for your help.

Looking on my map, you can take 95 pretty much there, at Hawthorne you can take 839 north and it comes out on Hwy 50 just east of Sand Mountain. Hwy 839 looks like a 2 lane Hwy and about 70 miles between Hwy 95 and Hwy 50.. From Vegas to Fallon is 384 miles according to my atlas, so I would guess it's about 325 or so miles. Best thing to do is log on to expedia.com or something silmiliar and get the exact mileage.
Never drove this route, But it does look desolate and both high desert and mountain ranges.

Thanks guys. I was a Geography major in college I can figure that much out. I am looking for first hand knowledge on the route. I don't feel like scanning thru LandSat and Topo maps when there are a lot of Vegas guys on here that make the trip often. Plus knowing when to stop for gas and water is important when service stations are 100 miles apart.
One more question, is there cell service along the route? sporadic at least [or best]?

There should be a number of AZ riders heading up to Sand Mt. for Labor Day Weekend (DS Days - Not just for DS's anymore).
Very long steep dunes. It is my home-field.
Great for a once a year visit for a good 3 days of riding but, it is not Glamis where 5 days of riding is great.
The hill at Sand Mt. is like a bunch of China Wall's at Glamis except longer than China Wall.
It is at 4000' so the weather is usually great in Sept. Not like you can ride Glamis that time of year anyways (too hot!)
AZSand, KMDuner, etc. should be able to give you an idea of drive time from AZ.
