Personally, I'm not a huge fan of paddles (just think other tires tread lighter) but I love sand. Not saying they don't make a difference. But, you can make it up just about anything if you hit it hard enough. Anything under 100 ft rise should be a cake walk for a banshee.

ps - when I say rise, I mean dang near straight up.
Choke cherry is way more than 100ft and damn near straight up. We were there in the first of june and the sand was so soft and deep that only the big motorbikes and banshee made it, with smooth fronts and paddles.

And all this time I thought there was more than one hill out there. Silly me.

You can bowl at SA's if you know how to ride dunes and don't have paddles. I don't recommend it for new people or lower hp machines.. I've be to SA once a year for five years. I know how to ride dunes and can ride all, but the steepest, CCH & DD w/o paddles. Yes I struggle, but I have done it on a 250r and my Dale.. No I couldn't get up the steep dunes west of Crapo Hill (Thunder Mtn), but that doesn't mean you can't bowl. Those hills are called hillshooting not bowling.. I ride LS, Utah 30 times a year for the last 7 years.. If you have hp, momentum, and knowledge you can ride dunes, go bowling and even hillshoot the smaller type Choke Cherry's.. The bottom line is SA's has more of the bigger dunes then all of the dune areas in the US combined. Yes, I have been to Glamis...
