couldn't agree more, HA2. i prefer a smoother, but strong powerband in all situations, so my vote is for the 450r. as for better at hillshooting, i come in very close to my buddy's stock yfz with paddles when we run comp at pismo (small hill so u can do it without paddles no problem). this is running with the knobbies at zero psi. with paddles it's harder to keep the front end down and he takes the start.

You'd have to ride a TRX for a comparison i suppose. theyre both superb machines and im yet to ride the yamaha, but if you look at the power curve comparisons on dyno print outs, it doesnt take much to realize they're both high strung. after riding torquey machines in the desert, im convinced the more torque in the dunes the better.
i myself am more into hill shooting before duning so id probably buy a YFZ if i didnt own the trike because im a much more agressive rider at the hill than in the dunes. and im willing to sacrifice the high strung power curve in the dunes to kick some butt on the hill(hence me owning a 2 stroke) and not to mention the sucess these guys have been having putting them on alcohol. i havent seen too many hondas run on alcohol so i wouldnt know where to start. but my plan is to build a 2 stroke dragger though, so im probably just gonna buy a TRX for the dunes and open desert only riding and keep the 2 strokes for stroking the hill.
a YFZ on methonal would be the shi..... plus they look so sexy with shaved plastics.
as far as MX racing, i havent set foot on a track so i dont know.
they both can be mind blowing fast for what 4 strokes were thought of only a couple years back.
just my opinion. im not trying to come off as this is how it is and thats that kind of thing.

HA2, part of the reason you probably haven't seen many 450rs on alky is cuz a lot of the aftermarket companies were a lot slower with makin mods for the 450r, than the yfz. its takin people a lil longer to experiment with the 450r.
as for the high strung thing, both machines like to be revved. if u ride the 450r below about 10 mph your risking stalling, below 6 or 7 and u probably did stall, unless your smokin ur clutch. the real difference is how it feels when the power comes on, the 450r is very smooth, where the yfz takes off right about half throttle. the yfz is very zippy and can be scary if ur not ready for it. it def. feels more like a 2-stroke.

I dont necessarily agree the more torque the better in the dunes, the raptor is the king of torque in comparison to a yfz but a raptor will not shoot hills like the yfz will, the steep hills my two stroke, and the yfz will fly up them but the raptor just likes itself into a hole
