Campgrounds near Silver Lake, MI
#1
Well, do to family reasons, I was forced to cancel my last Silver Lake trip. We have rescheduled it to Sept 21 & 22 and plan on camping this time. Does anyone have any suggestions for camping near the dunes?

That late in the season you might be able to get into the State Park. We usually go in October and get a site right along Silver Lake. Our wives can see us when we crest the last dune.
Plenty of other parks, though it seems like quite a few shut down soon after Labor Day.Here for info/campgrounds.

there are like 4 other camp grounds other than the state park. I just got back and I had to stay at silver city 2 campground. for two people for a stay of 3 might it cost 84 dollars and a 10 dollar deposit total of 94 dollars. the campground was ok but that was the olny place that we could stay without any reservations. try looking online at the link doubleboss gave

Double boss - Does the state park take reservations? The state parks in Ohio don't but I thought I heard that the Michigan ones do? $94 for three nights in a campground is outrageous. Although our hotel was going to cost us $100 for one night for two people. Darn rip off if you ask me!!

Magnum,
Yes, they do. here is the link to there online reservation site. The lake side loop is considered the "north" side. They have a map of the campground. Get there around 3 and you'll have good pickings. For the weekend you reference they have PLENTY of sites available right now! Costwise it's $20/night. Michigan maintains it's SP campgrounds very consistently. Bathrooms get cleaned daily, etc.
It'll be pretty dead up there by then. We usually go in Oct. and about all that's left open is the gas station and restaurant. Dunes get real smooth without all the traffic! Have a nice trip!

Thanks for the link and the info. I went out and reserved two spots for the weekend. Now all we need is good weather and we are in business. I wish Ohio would adopt a similar system. They have the old first come first serve policy at most of the state parks. I am not about to travel 3 hours to a campground on Friday night only to find a bunch of old people got there on Thursday and took the spots.
