i seek wisdom about atv's
Ok,Alot of you may be wondering the same thing maybe not.I want to know if i should buy a atv based on hp or cc.I see all these damned adds about how can ams lets say 650 has 60 hp? and it has what 633 cc,Yet a king quad 750 has 49 hp with 722 cc?.Or how a bruteforce 750 has 49 hp also yet the 650 still has more power?.Im to the point where i am lost.I know we buy atv's based on more then there engines,for reliability,Features,And all that good stuff.But when it comes down to the engines now i dont know rather cc or hp is more important?.Im not going to waste my time buying something thats so said 750 cc with just 49 hp? compared too a 633 cc 60 hp bike? what kind of bs is this?Hows 750 cc v twin have just 49 hp .Do some of these bikes have some sort of hp limiter? too prevent it from having a higher ammount.I love the bruteforce my neighbor has 1 and its a beast.But im completely confused guys.I hope i dont sound stupid for asking this but i been curious.I been riding four wheelers since i was a baby child ,I am 24 now and i average 8000 miles a year on my atv's.What confuses me the most is how hondas 680 rincon has just what was it 39 hp? and 670+ cc yet the low cc outlander 633 yet still 60 freaking hp????????...I see how the new 800 outlander has 71 hp but is that 71 hp that much differ from 60 hp?..And the 633 cc outlander 650 can out pull,out drag a brute?.Just really what determines a engines power hp or cc.Anyone can answer this and i would be so apreciative it would help me on my choice on my next quad.Also in a 100 yard drag both stock who wins brute 750 of kq 750,or outlander 650 lol.

It is a number game. It also depends on how the drive train transmits the 40, 50, 60 hp. How it is geared, lo end vs speed. HP=torque x speed. So a high reving engine can look like it has lots of hp but you won't be running it up there that much. To me features matter a whole lot more than HP numbers.

As stated already horsepower is directly related to the weight that it has to move, as well as the rpm that it developes it's horsepower. High horsepower without adequate torque to back it up is not usable horsepower in lower rpm ranges. If you are purchasing a new quad and are confused as to which one will best serve you, look primarily at where you are going to be riding it. It makes all the difference in the world where and how you ride. I made my choice after talking to no less than a dozen ATV mechanics that work at multi-line dealerships. They are the ones that know the real truth of who makes the best mousetrap. It seems to me that there is an ATV manufactured for every type of riding and some of them do better than others at giving things. It was my decision to get a quad that did everything well, but maybe not "the best" at any one thing. Riding quads is fun, and you can certainly have more fun if what you have isn't broke down all the time.
