Default Trailer or ramps

Short bed pick up so the gate would have to be down.
Should I look at ramps and what are the safest or a small trailer.

Thanks

Ramps that are as long as you can fit are the best idea ramp-wise as the longer they are the less steep they are. They should also be tied together in some way that keeps them parallel like a bi-fold or tri-fold. Also you should tie them to your truck so they don't fly out when loading or unloading. Trailers are nice because they are typically lower than a pickup tailgate. A snowmobile trailer with some tie downs is a good way to go. There are also ATV specific trailers out there. Cargopro makes a couple and Triton does too. If you can find a landscape type trailer with a fold down gate that is also a great way to go.

If you have room for the trailer and are able to part with the extra initial cash outlay, go with the trailer. Easier to tie down the quad, you don't have to run with the tailgate down, and if the trailer is big enough you can bring a buddy along. Ramps are much cheaper and work fine though.

I've gone from a 5x8 trailer, to a 2 place quad trailer, to a 101"x12' snowmobile trailer. So, we can carpool to the riding areas now. In a pinch I load one in my pickup, and can fit 3 fullsize on my trailer. It's more fun with buddies.

Made up my mind. Looking at a Pace 5X8 landscape traler. Home depot is selling them for $740. Moose has a point though about being able to haul more than one ATV at a time. Right now I can haul two if my bud is brave enough to put his unit up into my truck bed. As for me...........chicken

My Dad and I have built several trailers over the years and I don't know how abundant they are in your neck of the woods, but we take old boat trailers and convert them over to utility trailers. It is simple as can be and those trailers can often be had for really cheap, like less than $100. $740 seems high as hell to me for a 5' X 8'. Just a thought you might want to consider.

Default High price of trailers

Cody700 thanks for your advise. Yes I too think the Pace 5x8 from Home depot pricey. However, we live out in the middle of the national forest, indeed our county cover 3800 square miles but with a population of about 10,000. Spread pretty thin out here. No cities, county has no stop lights anywhere including the county seat. That means that I don't have much to choose from in terms of finding a trailer suitable for hauling my Rincon. I check Craig's List from a nearby (60 miles away) city regularly but no luck so far.

If I could find a converted boat trailer that would do the job for $100 or even twice that I would be a happy guy.

I actually own a nice little utility box trailer that has a 70 in. X 45 in. bed but my quad is 47 in. wide at the tire. Also the trailer bed is as high as my pickup and so I wouldn't gain much if I am trying to avoid driving up a ramp.

Do your trailers have ramps?

You can buy trailers with ramps, most landscaping trailers have them. If you get a trailer from h.d. take a good look at it because most of them are junk. Just like alot of items h.d. sells. Craigs list is prob. your best bet. In my neck of the woods alot of people will get free old pop up campers and strip them down to the deck. It works out pretty good because usually 2 atvs will fit on a old pop up deck.

Good call looking at trailers. I have a 5x8 and it is way better than when I used to load it up on my truck with ramps.

Thumbs up

Go with a trailer then you can haul your gear in the back of the truck. If you are just going to be hauling your Rincon check out some of the mail order web sites for kits. My friend bought one on line and it's a great little trailer. You have to wrench it to get it together then take it to have it titled if your state requires it. You then will have something to pull the Rincon on or with.
