i am looking to get my first ATV 4 Wheeler..not sure what one to get..
any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated..

my main use would be for hunting but also to have fun on..such as mudding,trail riding,ect.
want one with good ground clearance but that is not a chore to manuver.. i was thinking of an artic cat, but my brother was telling me to check out a suzuki..
am interested in something around a 650 or 700..

 

Man there are so many out there to choose from. Good luck. If you want the easy to manuever you probobly want to look into one with power steering. Also bigger isn't always better for what you describe. You might be plenty comfortable and happy with something 400/500 size.

And you can save a boatload of dough going with a used machine with very few hours on it.

 

Can-Am 650 has tons of power and a nice ride. Polaris doesn't really make a 650-700 class but any Polaris Sporstman has a really nice ride and easy to use 4wd system. Suzuki King Quad is one of the better priced quads. Kawasaki Brute Force is a strong machine with an odd front locker where you pull and hold a lever to keep all 4 wheels turning. Yamaha Grizzly is one of the better all around quads out there. Don't know much about the ACs.

 

well at the moment i am liking the arctic cat mudpro 700H1 EFI...going to see about a test ride this week...

 

I did see one of those at a show a couple winters ago, when they first came out. Neat looking machine. Let us know what you think of it.

 

Definitely get out and sit on a few. Doesn't really matter what it has or can do if you're not comfortable sitting on it.

I've had a cat 500 since around 2002, and am thinking about replacing it with one of their 2 up models. Not that I carry people a lot, but it's a longer wheelbase, and you can replace the rear seat with a rack or dump bed and put a load on the back without unbalancing the quad. Deer carcass would balance nicely back there.

Ground clearance is excellent, main reason I bought it. I kept getting my old big bear stuck on my rough-as-a-cob farm. Haven't stuck the Cat yet. The one thing it's missing is a front end locker, and the newer Cats all have that.

It's been a rock solid machine. Very little trouble, and I've worked it pretty hard on the farm, hauling trailer loads of hardwood over hills, putting up fences (winch is great for stretching fence wire), getting me and the tools to where I need to be. That 500 was so capable and reliable that I'm sticking with Cat for the next one.

 

yes johnO i was looking at the 2-up as well..the mudpro seams like the machine i mostly want right now..my brother has a cat utility that he has snorkled out and likes it..his son-in-law has a suzuki, cant remember size though, and they say for turning it is the easiest..but i intend on doing mudding to with what ever one i do get..the Mudpro 700 comes factory snorkled, plus has 14 inch ground clearance ( i really like that ) highest clearance i know of..local dealer has a 2010 model for $8500.00
might be able to get a little cheaper..going to go there this weak and try it out,they allow test rides..will let ya'll know what i think after i test it..

 

The biggest negative I have heard of on the AC's is that there ride is not the best.(rough) And with 14in of GC it makes for a tippy ride! Just hear say but have heard it more than once.

 

well they thing i am doing at the moment is testing different ATV..the cat mudpro i like, only from what i read on the arctic cat site..i have not set on them yet..i will be trying out the yamaha and suzuki too..those are the makes that i like.. 2 friends of mine had polaris and had lot of trouble with them so i am not really interested in looking at one of those..but i will let ya'll know my thoughts on the ones i ride..thanks for input everyone..
