Hi all new to the site hope i hit the right place with this. I am looking into getting a new/used 4x4 next spring. It will be a multipurpose atv. I want to be able to plow snow, create food plots, haul wood on a small 4x6 trailer and also be able to ride my local trails. I am not a speed demon so couldnt care less about being able to do above 40. I am not completely knowledgeable about 4 wheelers so and help would be greatly appreciated. I also have 0% brand loyalty, so it doesnt matter what it reads on the side.

 

You shuld get a used kawasaki prairie quad. Its full auto with 4wd and 2wd. Its water cooled and can hit 60 no problem. Im not realy shure what you can ride i mean power wise. Happy Shopping!!

 

Try to find a used 2001 ,Sportsman 500 H.O, make sure it has no ECM,Plastic roller cage and is Yellow.
Then your good to go.

There are tons of machines that will work for you from the Kawasaki Prairie 360 4x4 up into the mid range machines around 500-550ccs. If you're not going to be doing serious mudholes the Hondas are great all around and reliable machines. Speed goes to CanAms in each of their cc classes. Comfortable ride goes to Polaris Sportsman and the 500 is pretty bulletproof. Yamaha makes great all around machines. Suzuki is a good buy for the buck. I don't know a ton about Arctic Cats. For work, the Polaris Sportsman X2 is hard to beat. It has a 400 lb. rated rear suspension and I can tell you it's for real. It has a dump box that is handy and also converts in 10 seconds to a 2nd passenger seat. Independent rear suspension machines are generally more comfortable to ride than straight rear axle machines, and have better ground clearance. Straight rear axles are better for power sliding in corners and some say for towing. I haven't had any issues towing with the X2 but a softer sprung IRS might not be as good as a straight axle for towing.

 

Well my dad got the honda rancher 420 es with eps.it is a beast!its all the atv someone would ever need.Eps is the best thing that ever happend to ATV's

Get a yamaha honda or suzuki... The Honda will have the best reliability and resale value, The yamaha and suzuki are pretty tough and have alot of nice features..


If I was gonna buy a machine for working around a farm and some trail riding and speed wasnt a issue I would buy a newer 2009=2011 honda rubicon... Automatic tranny without belt.. low range.. and its the toughest best built ATV around... They still go 50+mph and have a very low center of gravity which makes them very safe to ride it's hard to roll one over..

10 years ago I would have said a Honda was hard to beat. Don't get me wrong because I think they still make a good machine. But now-a-days there are soooo many better choices out there for your dollar.
