Ready for new shoes
#1
Last year I decided it was getting close for new tires for my sportsman 500 but the darn A.C.T's just wouldn't die! Finally this fall I'm ready to pull the trigger on some new rubber and can't make up my mind. I originally had my mind set on the Zilla's but now there are even more of the aggressive all terrain/mud tires to choose from. I want an aggressive AT/ mud tire but not so extreme and heavy that I see power loss. I'm going to stick with 26" maybe 27".
I've been looking at the silverback X-lite's, Diamond backs, bighorn 2.0's, swamplite's, interco reptiles, and zillas. What's your guy's take on these and any other you'd suggest from experience. I especially like the looks of the silverback x-lite but haven't found much real world info on them yet.

I had a set on another bike and thought they were ok but not great. I didn't care for the handling on hardpack so much as they felt like they wanted to wander at high speed. I may stick with a radial for this reason but it may have just been that particular tire???

I'd ask ya what are you wanting to do with yer quad...you have 2 VERY aggressive mud tires listed and the rest are a regular all terrain styling..They would be appropriate for 2 different settings...deep mud and general riding...
If yer attacking DEEP mud then I'd say the bighorns, swamplites, and reptiles are not gonna be yer best bet...if yer higher speed, regular trails, off camber, general riding with little deep mud riding then I'd say the SUPER AGGRESSIVE mud tires would be a poor choice...except if you are going for "the look" then others opinions matter not...go with whatever you think looks cool

I've narrowed my choice down to the zilla's and the black diamond xt. I ride such a variety of terrain it's a tough call. I would go with another set of the ACT's but they're just not aggressive enough some of the time. Most of the time I find myself in sand, snow, hard pack and moderate mud. The ACT does great in these conditions but there's also swampy areas with soft loamy ground much like muskeg where you definitely need some serious bite or you'll be winching alot! I've seen some great reviews on the black diamonds and a friend of mine has a set of zilla's on his artic kitty and they perform great as an all around tire other than a slight vibration on hard pack at low speed under under 10 mph.

Well I finally pulled the trigger on a set of zillas. Will post some pics and thoughts once they get here. Doesn't look like they'll hurt my power what so ever. They only weigh a couple pounds more than the stock ACT's do. After many reads on the reviews of these I can't wait to test them out for myself.

Finally found some time to mount these up. They are 26" and actually measure up at 26". Mounted on the machine with it's full weight on them at 5psi. they stand at 25 1/4 tall which is nearly identical to the ACT's. The weight was also so close, it was difficult to feel the difference. As far as traction goes I haven't had much time to tell yet but can say these things definitely chew and aerate a lawn like nobody's business. At very slow speeds you really feel the lugs chop on hard ground, but at anything over 10mph they smooth right out. I haven't been out in any really good mud as of yet but can already tell that these things will have no problems with most any terrain.
