Default GPS recommendations?

Been using google maps on my phone to find my way around but it's a pain to have to stop every couple minutes to check where I am.
I have a Ram mount Aqua-box I bought for my Garmin Nuvi so I could mount it on my dual sport but I sold the dual sport and gave the Nuvi to a family member.

Since my atv has a 12v adapter I'd like something I don't need to rely on batteries for. But also something what will allow me to put in custom waypoints and maybe even tracks?

Looking for suggestions. Any advice welcome.
Thank you.

I have an ancient Garmin. It's still working after many years so I know the quality is there. I'd get another Garmin but I don't know which one. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I did some experimentation with a spare crappy car GPS and it doesn't like being offroad, nor does it allow saving waypoints or tracks.

I think I'm going to try using my cell phone in the Aqua-Box, I found an app from Google called Tracks or Go Tracks or something like that. It seems to be aimed at hikers which works perfectly for my needs. I'm going to test it the next time I go out.

Also, I'll post the actual name of the app once I have my phone in front of me.

Have an old Nuvi 500 made by Garmin. Thing is still working after years of abuse. May be able to find one on eBay. Has the ability to create waypoints and follow your track back. The newer, pricier, Garmin Montana 650t is a great gps if you have the money.

Thanks Moose. I've been eyeballing the Garmin GPSMAPS 78sc or the etrex 30. I like the 78sc because it's so versatile. The fact that it floats is super cool also

I went to the Nuvi 500 because it was both a street gps and a trail gps with topographic maps and was waterproof as well. I had a GPSMap76 that was decent but I like the touch screen on the trail. I've had it for about 5 years and it still works well. Only thing that was a disappointment was when I did an update from Garmin it messed up communications between the topographic maps and street directions. Not a big deal to me. I use it exclusively on the quad now.
