Default Tires for 2014 Sportsman 400 HO

Ive got a 400 HO that has been working great with the stock tires, but I think it needs something more aggressive for the mud. I think Maxxis Zillas would look great and do good in the mud, but how do they compare to ITP Meyhem or Mud lites? Would it be safe to run 27s or 28s on my 400? If so would I NEED a clutch kit? Any other problems I would have to watch out for running the bigger tires on my 400? Any feedback helps!

Thanks!

I ran 26" Maxxis Zilla with 1.19" lugs ,11" wide rears and 9" inch wide fronts on my 350 Grizzly easily without any cluching.

Zillas are the lightest 6ply mud tires made. Go to this site for tire specs ATV Mud Tires : Best ATV Tires nothing with aggressive treads are as light as the Zillas.

Your 455 will handle 26 or 27 easily.

Example a Zilla http://www.mud-throwers.com/inc/sdetail/6590/12045
27-11-12

23.4lbs

1.19" lug

A smaller/thinner ITP Mayhem with a shorter 1" lug weighs the same. http://www.mud-throwers.com/inc/sdetail/6593/58032

25-10-12

23 lbs

1"Lug

A 27-11-12 Meyham is 11 lbs heavier but does have a taller 1.5" lug.

The zillas are definately the lightest... and I think they're the way to go. Thanks!

Zillas are definitely tested!

The other day I talked to a guy with his new aggressive tire, its ITP Mammoth mayhem. He's very impressed with its light weight and aggressive look and performance, its 32" though. Another article proves its performance

Do you think 27 x 12" (1.2") lugs would be ok on a 400HO? looking at ITP delta steels.

Looking at 26" - no lift kit.

Zillas would be a good choice. 26" and bigger get the bigger 1.19" lugs. I guess its up to you if you think you really need a little more ground clearance with bigger tires than that. If you've been making it through ok with the stock tires, even 26" Zillas will be a big step up in the mud and I doubt you will notice any difference in power.

Im going up to 26, have tons of room for them, and they wont weigh much more than the 489's. Plus I really can use the bigger lug.
