Default Trailboss electrical problems

Hello I was just riding my 1986 trailboss and was running great and when I shut it off to get the atv ramps and I went to hit the electuring start and won't work checked the lights won't work but the machine will start. Just no electrical things. Is there a fine for the battery or something? Also could you give me some troubleshooting steps thanks

Circuit breaker in a sealed pouch up from the battery. See if power is going in and out on the red wire. If not, slice the pouch open and replace this 20 amp breaker. They can short out, corrode over time.Any auto supply will have them. You can have the key on and pull start these old machines because they are magneto triggered. The battery is for the starter, lights, fans, etc.

Power goes from the circuit beaker to the left control switch which controls lights, starter button, reverse over ride, emergency on/off switch for the dash and ignition switch. I'd trace wires from it into the terminal board for shorts. Plus spraying some electrical contact cleaner in the cracks and crevices of this switch may help. Internal brass contacts and other parts can get corroded over the years. Plus try something simple like moving the emergency kill switch back and forth and see if you regain power. If the problem is in the control switch, best to just replace it as there are no serviceable parts.I'd still check for shorts in the wiring from it and ignition switch to the terminal board. Looks like someone is making new switches for this old machine. At least shows the correct part number.New Polaris Start Stop and Hi Lo Headlight Switch 4110063 | eBay

Is there any grounds on the bike that grounds a wire to the frame?

Main ground from the battery goes to the engine, just behind the clutch. Should have engine to frame ground strap from the top engine mount.

No the stator shouldn't have any effect on power unless wires are shorted into the main harness. Start at the beginning, the battery and connections. Power to the dash goes through the circuit breaker. If power is going through the breaker you just have to follow the harness to the switches and see if you can find the problem.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
