Question Is Mobil 1 safe for an atv?

I have a 1999 Honda recon trx250 and did a recent oil change on it. I put Mobil 1 10w30 advanced full synthetic in it and now I’m worried that this may damage the engine. Is this oil safe for my quad?

Welcome to the forums.

Motor will fine, but with a wet clutch system it can gum up the clutch. You can use oil specifically blended for atv/motorcycles, or you can use oil for diesels. Those don't have friction modifiers in them. I've ran Shell Rotella in my bike for years without any issues.

I've know people to run regular oil and never have any issues, then some who did.

Good news is you probably haven't done any harm to the clutch system if it's been a recent oil change.

Thanks for the quick response scootergptx. I have some conventional 10w30 shell rotella for Diesel engines. Can I put that in my quad and is it safe for the clutch system?

Should be fine. Look for the JASO MA rating on the oil.

Of all the ATV brands I have owned and worked on, it seems Polaris says to use a full synthetic, so I get Mobil 1. Others
are pretty much all 10W40 conventional. I often use diesel-rated oil, 15W40, cuz the price is better. Never had problems.

BTW, Rotella 15W40 is commonly available at Home Depot for a good price.

I run Rotella T6 5W40 in my ATVs and the RZR.

I'm not sure if the OP's ATV has a wet clutch but if so, he shouldn't be using 10W30 oil.
