New RUV Idea!!
#1
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and had an idea I wanted to run by you guys, any advice would be appreciated. Ok here it goes....I've been looking at taking a KEI MINICAB pickup(imported used from ASIA) and putting a set of Mattracks on it. Weighs about 1700lbs, 4X4, lockers front and rear, 800lbs load capacity, with a bed large enough to park a sled or atv inside, cabs are heated and have AC, 660cc fuel injected engine and 4 or 5 speed tranny. Does anyone have any info on these little trucks good or bad??? The main attraction is of course the price, you can get one with 15-20-k on the little buggers for about 5 grand. Everything I've seen says these are good for 100-K plus, they are all Mitsubishi, Suzuki, or Subaru made!!!! Thanks

Personally, if I were to go the route you're looking at, I'd probably go with an early 80's toyota truck with the 22re engine. Those little engines take a REAL pounding, and can last 100k+ miles even treated miserably. A LOT cheaper, and you won't be po'd when you get a dent or 3 in it.

yeh I've looked at that too, I really want to build a track machine, I think the tracks for a midsize are over 15-k, $5,500 for the RUV. I really can't decide what to do, I've built some toys in the past, 86 chev, 6 inch lift, 35's, 456 gears, lockers front and rear, and a lifted golf cart with big tires, one was to big, other was to small, trying to find a happy medium.
I'm looking at the 900RTV and the Prowler, I know they are totally opposites but I like things about both of them. Maybe I just build my own..... Any Ideas????

Ever think about an early Suzuki Samurai build up? I've got a 72 Bronco that's only 6 feet wide, but with the right tires and wheel offset, I know I could get that down to 5 feet, and I know those Samurai's are narrower yet.
What's the attraction of a tracked vehicle? After running the track off a bobcat in off-camber terrain, I know I'll never go that route, not for trail riding.
