Default Snow plow lifting mechanisms....I'm burning through winches.

Usine a 72" blade with an 07 Rhino, it took about a year, but I killed the Warn winch. Bought some cheap winches and burned through them faster. I obviously keep the winch going too long, but since I can't see the height of the blade and have no way of knowing if it is all the way up or not, I don't know how to do any better? Is there an actuator made for this kind of thing? Warn makes one, but it says it isn't for UTVs, and only for up to 60" blades, despite being a 3000lb deal.

What do you guys use and how do you keep this from happening? I'm at my wits end on this.

two pcs of anything like dowel rod, fishing pole etc....,
One pc vertical from the plow.
One pc Horizontal from the Rhino.
Fab the two pcs. so that when the blade is all the way up, they touch.
Now you know.

Old fishing poles are ideal for this.

Ive never had to, or nor have I ever seen anyone do it.

Ive just always been able to feel when my plow stopped.
I also listen for the sound of my winch.

It was just and idea thats all, Kind like the tennis ball hanging in the garage idea for those folks that have no sense of when to stop.LOL

I see where you say "you cant see the height of the blade" Why not just use a plow marker that is the correct length to see when your blade is in the full up position.... as soon as you see the top of the marker, stop your winch.

That may be what I do. Hopefully I am smart enough to recognize that.

One question.

Do you have a thumb type switch or the turn a dial type switch.
The turn a dial ones can be a pain in the *** while plowing and I could feal your pain.

The thumb "rocker" swith made my life sooooo much better over the last 6 years of plowing.

Good luck.

I've got the rocker (after suffering through a dial on my quad). It plugs in and I can just hold the unit in my hand.
