Removing the Axle on a 300EX
#1
I have just bought a 1999 300EX. I need to take the axle out. I am not certain on the best way or anyway to do this. How do you remove the axle? What problems might I run into? Any suggestions?
Thanks,

OK boy since he won't help you I will
Put your 300 on level ground put it in neutral...take off your swingarm skidplate (four bolts underneath either 12 or 14 mm ) Take a larger adjustable wrench on the inner locknut (on the right side on the axle) and place another large adjustable on the outer locknut, hold the outer on and an turn the inner wrench, it may be hard to turn because they apply locktite from the factory and use alot of torque to hold it there. If you can't get it loose try tapping it with a rubber hammer or put a breaker bar over the wrench, DO NOT use heat as that will weaken the axles heat treated hardness. After the inner nut is loose turn it in, then turn the outer nut IN until you can see the snap ring under it completely exposed. Pop the snap ring out of the groove and slide it outward. Next go to the right rear tire, take the cotter pin out from the large nut. Put your fourwheeler up on something like a milk crate (under the engine). Now loosen the allen heads on the rear of the swingarm, take that same allen head and put it in one of the bearing carrier slots, rotate the carrier forward so the chain is at the loosest possition take the chain and slide it off the rear sprocket inward. Now go back to the right rear tire and remove the large nut, then slide your wheel with hub attached off. Now go to your rear caliper and take out the two bolts that hold it on. Pull the caliper up off the rotor and set it to the side. Now slide off the rotor rotor hub assembly. Go to the left side and slowly and carfully pull out the axle, and your done….if you wanted to take out the carrier there is more too it.
