Default 400EX Mods, What do you think???

I just ordered a stage 2 hot cam, 11:1 comp. piston(85mm), and a gasket set today. The piston is the same bore as stock, its just a higher compression piston. WILL THIS WORK OUT? Here is what I have in my 400EX: HMF slip on silancer, Ground out welds on my stock head pipe, K&N air filter with air box cover removed, hi-rev CDI box, and a Dyno Jet kit. And I will be adding the parts listed above: stage 2 Hot Cam, 11:1 (85mm) piston, and a stock top end gasket kit. Will this set up work in my EX. I will probably have to mess with my jetting some. I might even take out my choke. But will I have any problems with this set up or will I be OK? Thanks for your help.

Does any one know what you plug the hole with in your carb when you remove the choke?

When I did mine, I just popped the black cap back on and wrapped with electrical tape. Some others say they use silicone, but I'm too scared it would get sucked in. I have the same setup ( piston and cam) as you but haven't finished breakin it in. It sounds and revs alot meaner though. My jetting is the only question I have on mine though. I've heard 155 to 180 on the main jet, that is a big range. I had a 158 before rebuild and left it in because it was running rich before. I will see how it does once it is broke in and start revving it.

Just make sure you get your cylinder honed to the proper tolerances. It is a stock bore piston, but you want to make sure that your cylinder matches the specs that come with the piston. It won't take much to make it right. I'm having mine done...same set-up as yours by one of the machinists at Powroll. If you don't get it honed, you run the risk of seizing up your piston and breaking your connecting rod. I've heard of this happening many times on this and other forums.

this setup should work good together, when i put the stage 2 cam in mine, it gave it a 2 stroke feeling powerband, u can really tell when the cam comes on. you will have to jet, no big thing though.

Does that mean that it would take away all my bottom end if I added a 11:1 piston with the stage 2 hotcams

With this set up I'm going to run 92 octane gas with Klotz octane booster. But after I break it in good; lets say a month from now, can I run straight 92 octane? I hope this give me a two stroke feeling, I loved my R. Hopefully I can keep up to the two strokes and Predators on the straights now, It jumps well and handles good but I just needed more power. It will be done tomorrow. Also I have a 170 dyno jet in it; will this jetting work out, will I have to mess with the fuel mixture screw or my pilot jet?

What do you plug the hole with on your carb if I take the choke out. Is it possible to just take the choke plate out and leave the lever on the carb, and this would plug the hole?

i plugged the hole with a vacuum cap that you can buy from a local parts store. i believe the size i used was 3/8 but i am not 100% sure.
