250EX cutting out
#1
Twice now, when I've gotten the bike wet riding through mud puddles, the engine
has cut out. When I fire it back up, it sputters and dies. It won't idle even with me
on the throttle. It takes about ten minutes then it's fine.
The mud puddles aren't deeper than the tires, but I hit them fast enough that the
entire bike does get wet. I checked the air box for water/mud but it was dry.
Any ideas? Is this relatively normal? I'm not mechanically inclined any advice
is appreciated.

I had the same problem with my recon. This is gonna sound crazy but they found the problem even though it made no sense to me. Check the vent tubes comming off your carb. They hang staight down and by the air intake. Mine was clogged and caused fuel to go into my crank causing my oil to have fuel which actually made the oil at twice the normal level. I cleared the hoses and changed the oil and it has run fine ever since. If this is the problem you will eventually see oil in your air box.

Thanks for all the help. I think you're on to something, I've noticed the oil level has
been unusally high.

Mine was so bad that anytime I hit any water it would stall. That was in the first week of buying my bike. I thought I bought a lemon. I would take the overflow tube comming off the bowl of carberator and run it up under the seat. If you pull your dip stick you can smell the gas in it. ONce i changed the oil and cleared the tubing Ive had water over the wheels and no problems since. Good luck, Matthew
