Rancher: Do I need 4-Wheel Drive?
#22
I don't know about your finances but you could purchase the 4x4 first and in the future purchase a sport quad and then have the best of both worlds.
That would describe how I did it.

i ride our logging trails up in far western Virginia and I wouldn't try it without 4wd. If your trails are free from sticks and logs and loose rock, unlike mine are, then 2wd may work for you. My 4wd has gotten me places I never thought we could go on our rancher because of the 4wd. Climbing over a rocky ridge line or over a downed log would be possible in 2wd without getting off and pushing.
With 4wd you just have the added confidance to go places and not have to worry about getting stuck.
