honda trail 70 need help!!

my brothrer was riding my trail 70 in the woods the other day and was in second and down shifted to first he said it reved real high and then killed on him he brought it home and now it has no comp. and makes a tinky tinky sound when u kick it over. ps he said it made a pop then stopped running. can any one pls help and give some advice on what might be wrong and what to look for? thanks

It sounds like what happened to my friends quadsport. He broke the rod, but for you it might just be that he blew out a gasket somewhere in the topend of the motor. Is it leaking oil anywhere?

It sounds like its time for a engine rebuild. Do you have any compression, problaly not. The piston isn't moving.

I hope you or some friends are mechanically inclinded.

no its not leaking oil just no comp and it makes the sound and yes i am mechanically inclined lol

Great that your mechanically inclined,

Get a Clymers or Honda Service manual & get into the engine. I used Clymer to rebuild my kids Z-50R.

sounds like it ran low on oil.

its got plenty of oil i had just changed it about 3 weeks before this happened

I think the transmission was shifted between gears and then wide-open throttle applied with no crank shaft load, resulting in extreme high RPM. The engine was a little worn and so a maybe kinda loose. Something was overstressed and broke. Maybe a piston crown, maybe the rod ... Time for a tear down.
