Default Has anyone bought a 2004 400EX?

Well, I drove 3hrs got to the shop & found out that my Honda Card( Mill Creek Bank) isn't the financing company that will give you 6.9%....... American Honda Financing is the one that will do it. What Honda offers for my card is 11.9% for 2 years then jumps up to 16.5% after that. At first I was really pissed..but then I read the fine print & realized what was going on. So the salesman wants me to apply for American Honda Financing, but I didn't want to open up another line of credit ( I just got the Honda Card a few months ago with $8,000 limit ) & my wife was back home & we always talk about these things together before we commit to something. So, when I finally got ahold of her she didn't want us to open up anymore credit than we already have, plus she wasn't there to sign anything. She said it was up to me if I wanted to go ahead & buy it at the higher interest I could, but being the tight-wad that I am....I didn't. I was going to get it for $5,330 out the door along with $300 Bonus Bucks. I'm still going back & forth on whether I should go back & get it next Sat or just wait until my Honda Card has better financing. The payment for the 1st 2 years would have been $80 per month, then when the interest goes up it would be $133.25 per month. What would you guys do??????????????????????????????????

Oh yeah...the carb issue. I asked the salesman about it when I got there & he said lets go look at an 04. They look exactly the same on the outside but I expected that. He asked where I heard about it, so we went to his official Honda web-site & looked it up & there it was....a 38mm pumper on the 04 & a 35.5mm pumper on the 03. He went around the shop asking everybody if they knew about this...manager...mechanic..parts guy....& nobody knew about it ( maybe I should have applied for a job right then! ). It was all news to them...& this is a big shop in Southern Calif!!! So.....a few people even suggested that it might be a typo....they said they get reports on every model with any changes from last year...& they had it & all it said was new graphics. Anyways...my out the door price on a new 04 was $6,000 even............f@%c that!

that's way too high. not surpised they didnt know anything about it. when i bought my truck, the chevy salesman was scratchin his head and just trying to make up crap that was totally bogus. i knew better. i told him how it was and to just start getting the price negotiation underway; i eventually went and talked to the owner of the dealership and we worked out the price and did all the paper work straight from there. i wonder how some of these buttwads windup making it big in sales? they dont know what they are selling most of the time - are people that dumb to buy it? i guess so. It must be a requirement or check mark on the application that says, " hi everyone, I am completely and totally full of shhhhh!"
those people are probably the ones who get rushed to the front of the pack.

Yeah, I agree...after I left this shop I went to Chaparral & their out the door prices were WAY higher...they acted like the prices I was quoted would just kill them! Well, they're not taking me to the bank! Oh yeah...the out the door price for a YFZ 450 was $8,400!!!!!! But there was about 5 or 6 trucks in the parking lots with brand new quads & dirtbikes that were just purchased.......people must not care what they pay or I just might be the worlds biggest TIGHT-WAD!!!!!!!!!!

Most people just don't know any better and believe what the sales person says. They just go to the nearest dealer.

I'm not telling the sales people anything anymore. They'll just use the info to make the 400EX sound special and then they'll be less likely to go down on the price. Few months from now the 2004's will be selling just as cheap as the 2003's.

BansheeSand- I wouldn't get into one of those deals where they raise the interest later. You never know what might happen tomorrow. You might need that little extra money to put towards a roof or something. Anyways, why give them any extra money? I think I'd check the banks or credit unions interest rates. Tell Honda where they can put their card.

When I was at a dealership a couple days ago, I went to talk to the head of the garage area to ask about some models. (He was very good to me with a previous warranty problem.) He said that Suzuki did improve the frame on the Z400. I would buy a Z400 for a higher price before I'd buy a 400EX at a high price.
This dealership carries Yam, Hon, Suz, Kaw, Pol.

Anybody who pays 11.9% financing in today's world is seriously ignorant. Just do a little homework and you can half that.

Yeah...11.9 is too high. But finding something half that is hard to do...6.9 through Honda is the best I can find & I don't have a credit card with 6% & a $6000 limit on it!! My credit union will do 12%...banks will go from 12 to 16% Quads & dirtbikes are considered luxury items & the rates will be higher for these kinds of loans, not like a house or a car where you can get excellent rates ( I got my Silverado at 0%!!! ) I'm just gonna sit back & wait until the rates drop some more. I could do the Yamaha thing with 3.9 for 2 years...but I need a low rate for 3 or 4 years locked in.
