Well winter is the exception, I expect all 4x4's (and 2x4's) to push on ice or hardpack snow. All of our quads do, including 2 four wheel drives and I know my 300EX does.

What made me think this, is that I've ridden my buddies 450s on dirt and in the snow, and it really does push less in the snow. I can't speak about the rancher on dirt because I've only ridden it in the snow.

Rooster, I don't agree, it seems to me you would get less front end push in the snow. On quads the rear end is locked, causing the inside rear wheel to have to brake traction in a turn, this is what I've always thought caused push. In the snow the rear tires would break traction easier, there for you would get less "push". If a quad had a lot of push it would seem to me that the rear tires have more traction than the fronts can handle. I could be wrong, so let me know.

Well I was referring to hardpack snow. It's just hard to get traction in the winter sometimes, so the front end wants to keep going instead of hook up.

Garyc400ex. The rancher is not just for hauling hay,it is one of the best 4x4 i have ever rode. Its one of the sportest 4X4s made,i rode saturday with a friend that owns a wolvirine and he was very impressed with the ranchers performance.

I have to agree with rjt. The Honda Rancher is a very sporty 4X4. I just bought one for my wife and I have enjoyed it very much. It is quite 'peppy' and 'nimble' for a utility quad. I have also enjoyed the Electronic Shifting. My other quad is a '99 Sportsman 500 which requires no shifting and is not quite as agile. (No Polaris bashing please). When my wife and I go ride we constantly swap bikes getting the best of both worlds.
