Does anyone know the part number for Fram or Wix filters? I would like to go to my auto parts store and tell them the number I need. All hondas use the same Oil filter I guess that is nice.

My local store is a Car Quest, their wix filters are in a Car Quest box, part number 89944. Any parts store can cross reference that number to any other brand you like.

The following is from the Fram web site.

Unless specifically waived in writing by the Federal Trade Commission, under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act, a manufacturer may not make its vehicle warranty conditional on the use of any brand of filter unless the manufacturer provides the filter free of charge.

So if the consumer is told that only the original equipment filter will not void the warranty, he should request that the OE filter be supplied free of charge. If he is charged for the filter, the manufacturer may be violating Federal law.

Thanks fellas. I was NOT so worried about the warranty; it's a used 2000 400EX...in great shape at that. I just want to get the best bang for the buck. Honda filters wouldn't do it for me. So, looks like I am probably going with WIX after I do some research on it. Like KIRK_D4 stated, "More important than the brand of oil and filter, is to change the oil and filter often!"

TrailMix,

I tried calling the number, but being on the East Coast, it was too early in the morning to get someone. I went to the website www.planethonda.com and it looked like an automobile website. Is this the correct site?

I haven't used their website yet. I know that the phone number is right because I used it yesterday. While I was on hold, the recorded message was saying that you can access parts breakdowns (microfiche sp?) on their web site. When the service guy got back on line I asked him about the part breakdowns. He said that they only have the most popular models on the website- but that includes the 400EX!

Planet Honda is part of Metro Powersports in Canton, Michigan (near Detroit). Michigan is in the Eastern time zone- they're open 9:00 AM to 8:00PM.

TrailMix;

Thanks a lot for your help. I did in fact call the number and they had the filters. My problem lies with s/h. The final price was about $5 per filter, which I think is cheaper than my local Honda shop, but I may try to find the WIX brand. I've heard good things about this brand. Not sure of the price though. By the way, the site to Planet Honda is www.planethondaracing.com.

This brings me to my next question. My local WIX dealer couldn't find my needed filter by the vehicle type. Therefore, I need to know Honda's serial number for the 2000 400EX filter. Anyone know it? Thanks in advance for the information.

The WIX filter number comparable to the Honda is 24944. I bought it for $5+tax.

Just remember it only goes in one way! I know a guy who bought a 300ex and he forced it in backwards and had to rebouild the motor after driving for a day.
