From the picture, it looks like a warmed-over 400EX. Yeah it will have a ton more power, but it isn't race ready, you'll still need a 2+2 axle and +2 A-arms and have the shocks revalved and maybe resprung. It looks like a mild steel frame. I wish someone (besides Cannondale) would come out with a quad that was wide enough and low enough to race without having to spend $2000 to get it there. Honda motorcycles have been made out of aluminum for years, why can't they make the quad out of aluminum (Cannondale did, there's that name again).
What I really want is a woods version and an MX version that cost the same. There can't be that much price difference in making the A-arms and axle 4 inches wider. That way us folks out West who don't care about hitting a tree can have the quad we want from the dealer.
I hope the 400EX A-arms and axle fit, that way I'll be able to move my MX parts over.

I don't know that I would take much from this sketch - I mean, it's just that. It's a rough sketch. I think Honda is just tossing out a bone to let us know that it's definately coming. I think we will get full pics after the dealer show in Sept......I am just happy to know it's going to be here finally......

I wouldn't take much from the picture either I think it's just there to say something new is coming. If they restrict it and I know they will I hope they do it by restricting air, fuel and exhuast and not cam, compression, ignition along with air, fuel and exhuast. I'm pshyched I'm buying a new quad next spring/summer and we'll see how all these options weigh out then.

Do you remember the sketches of the Raptors that Yamaha released. They were almost exactly what the final version looked like. The Honda sketch is detailed down to the plastic that connects like the 400EX and the Ohtsu tires.
I think that's pretty much what it's going to look like. I like the look, but the dimensions look like your standard 72-inch long, 46-inch wide factory quad. The 250R was the same, but to call it "race ready" is pure marketing. I can buy a 400EX for $4000, put $2000 into the suspension, have $2000 left in my pocket and whip the 450R on the race track.

IMO, the cartoon is suspect. i think they have every intention on producing this quad. But i don't think it exists today. they rushed the animation to quiet the thunder from Yamaha. ie; my plan was to purchase a yfz next year, after it's had a year on the tracks. now i'll wait...on the honda news alone.my fear is this quad won't be available until summer 04.
on a brighter note. this should reduce the price of the Z's, YFZ's and predators. force next years YFZ into the 450cc range and breath new life into the racing seen.
it's nice to have options

The quad has been done for almost a year now. Honda takes forever on R&D unlike many others. That is why Honda has a track record like they do. I posted on this TRX450r awile ago and everyone thought it was BS. The funny part is I was at the shop looking at it. There was one last Thursday and Friday at Glen Helen in So CAl testing. The quad is really nice. As far as race ready NO. The YFZ is not race ready either. Do you think it is because it has some cheap OEM rezzie shocks. Look at Cory Ellis YFZ and tell me how much of it is stock. Oh yeah I forgot the frame, plastic, seat and some of the engine are!
