My 330 is great runs all the time with regular maint. I rode the yfz extensively at st. anthonys Idaho. The power on the yfz is more of what you would expect of a four stroke, a more linear feel. My r is a 330 power valve esr engine with trx5 pipe and low mid porting. The 330 still has the 2 stroke feel and hit on the pipe of a 2 stroke. As far as which on has more power or is quicker I do not know we never raced them as there was too much of a rider weight differance. Seat of the pants the 330 feels more brutal on acceleration but in reality I would bet that the yamaha is close if not right there.

Reliablity on the yfz I don't know you'll have to wait and see...check with the guys riding the yfz 450 bike.

Oldsandman,

How does the YFZ compare to your Speed? Is it faster than your 900? I'm kidding, I'm kidding! I was real surprised to read thst you felt your 330 and the YFZ were close. I'll be interested to read your reply.

I would also like to hear about your Zila900. Have you written about it here on ATVConnection? I would like to do a Frankenquad project myself.

My wife's 330 is the bolt on non-power valve ESR cylinder. It has the TRX-9 porting and the TRX-11 pipe. It has run 5.0's on 300ft and the low to mid power is awesome. Reliability is there if you keep it jetted right and put a piston in it once a year. Small maintenence costs and super easy to work on. There is no comparison in power.

I don't own a yami I do own an esr built 330 power valve, trx5, tmx carb, cr ingnition, low mid porting set up for dune riding not dragging...Hate to break it to you but the yfz does go good it is the best out of the box quad I have ridden. I did not race them head to head as I stated! I just tried to tell by the seat of pants feel and the yfz felt very strong. I didn't say it would beat my330 but it was in the ballpark for an all stock quad thats pretty impresive if you ask me. It is hard to compare the power 2 stroke vs 4 stroke as I said previously the 330 hits harder the yzf pulls more evenly. With a pipe and some head work the yami will be very fast.

As for my Speed I have a south bay 450 comp IV motor and the yfz was dead even with it in a drag. The yfz was beating a stock cannible by 3-4 bikes over 100 yards.

The 900 is an Lt-500 frame with a '98 honda cbr900rr motor with cams and a little head work. The frame took quite a bit of cutting and new fabrication to get the motor to fit and look right in it. It has a 4+ lonestar swing arm. LS stearing stem, a-arms and axle. I have honda hubs on the back and am now building some honda bolt pattern hubs for the front. I fabbed an aluminium gas tank that fits under the seat and also holds the battery in the y area on the frame. I run 22-11-8 14 paddle in back and smooth buffs in frt. It is great for hillshooting its main purpose but can also be dune ridden and it is actually good at it. I just wouldn't want to jump it! If you want high horsepower and lots of torque it's the only wat to go!
