I would agree - but budgets are budgets....My son had 16" Elka triples with piggyback rezzies on a modified 250x frame (had to to fit those Elkas) and the first jumping he did was when he was 15 at Roush Creek park in Pa. He rode the intermediate track - mostly for quads - for a few hours. It was his first day jumping any quad for real so I was pretty nervous for him. He hit a 40' table top too hard and overshot the ramp by at least 10' - I paced the distance - about 80' overall from take off to landing. He cames down skewed and I figured ......well this is it......... Those Elkas sucked up all the energy and the bike just squatted without flipping or bottoming out - I was AMAZED......been a fan of those shocks ever ever since.

There is nothing at all wrong with elkas in fact I have them on my r. They are the best shocks I have ever ridden and I have had quite a few different shocks. But for someone on a budget the works are a definate improvement over stock and make sense $ wise. If $ isn't an issue I would say get the Elkas.
