Gabe,
I didn't mean to rip on yours or anybodies 400ex. Like I had said, it was just my opinion. A friend of mine has a 400ex that has had about everything done to it imaginable, and although it is a VERY fun bike, I would prefer a 250R. I was a little bummed when Honda came out with the 400ex because I was hoping for a liquid cooled, double overhead cam, 325lb 4-STROKE, somewhere in the 400cc range(maybe I'm dreaming?).

It wasn't my point to rip on you either, just offering some counter points to your statements... I was also simply saying that it is mainly rider preference.... Looks like we agree, eh!
I would like to see the bike you mentioned as well, maybe with the competition coming up, we will. I feel the 400EX was a marketing test that turned out to be a success. They stuck an existing engine in existing chassis geometry, with a couple mods (aluminum here and there, etc...) to come up with a model that probably didn't cost them too much in development, just in case it failed. I'm with you, hopefully better models will follow.

It's coming. The DOHC 400 ENGINE has been stuffed into a cr 250 frame. It's in a French mag this month. I have seen the pix on the web at another site. There was talk that LaRocco was to race the bike at Glen Helen but he refused to be the Giunea pig. If its ready you will see it in a frame within a year. You will have to. I've got $14,000 Wrapped up in a CT440 and it's only 40hp or so. Cannondale will be pushin' 45-50hp as will the Gas-Gas or Husaberg if they ever get around to it. Kawasaki is also set to launch their 400 DOHC klx based quad [how's the Tecate 44 sound?]
Mike penland admitted it's existence during an interview when asked what he was riding in this year's Baja 2000.
Honda has always been the leader in ATV racing they don't want that to change. But they need a 400/4stroke to compete in the quad wars, 250 motorcross, and in the enduro ranks where the XR 400 is dead last nowadays. Good times are upon us. The bad thing is our 400ex's will be tomorrow's 300ex type play quad,
