Foremen 400 front drive shaft
The 4 wheel drive quit on me. The output shaft or yoke turns out of the motor but the drive shaft does not. Before I take apart has anyone performed this repair.
I was wondering if it is a spline or what. The drive shaft turns freely and does not feel like it is rubbing on anything inside the yoke. Looks like there will be alot to take apart to pull the front drive shaft out?
Thanks

Welcome to the site.
I will try to help you, but i need some more info first. if you spin both front wheels at the same speed at the same time, does the driveshaft turn? And if it does, do the back wheels turn too, or does the driveshaft just spin and not turn anything else? When you say the output shaft, are you talking about the shaft coming out to the side of the motor that the front drive shaft hooks to?

Thanks for your reply. Yes when you lift the front both front wheels and axle spin together back to the motor. Everthing on the front is ok back to where the drive shaft is inserted into the yoke on the front of the motor. There is about a 4 or 5 inch yoke sticking out of the motor the drive shaft goes in. That is where the problem is. I think there are splines inside that are stripped. The yoke spins from the motor to the drive shaft but that is as far as it spins. I know where the trouble is I was wondering what is inside that locks the shaft to the motor. And how much trouble to get the front drive shaft out
Thanks

The only thing that holds the front driveshaft in is a spring in the motor side coupler, to remove the shaft you unbolt the the front diff and slide it foward as far as you can get it, then you slide the coupler (motor side) foward off the splines and pull it out away from the motor and you can remove the shaft, coupler and spring. Just becareful not to shoot the spring out of the coupler when you remove the shaft out of the coupler. When I replaced my front drive shaft I had to use a air hammer to get the coupler off the splined transmission shaft. it was rusted together from never being off. grease everything good when you replace the shaft and coupler. I hope that helps you out. it's pretty easy even if I made it sound hard.
