I think you have a lot of learning to do. If a cop pulls up right behind you, that's the WRONG time to try to get away from him! Only ever attempt to run if the cop is going the other way or he's far from you or you can get on some trails really fast...running down the street is pretty pointless and you're only going to get your *** beat when he catches you. Just FYI, evading police by speeding away (especially since you said you almost wrecked) is a class D felony.
95% of the time if a cop stops you on a quad, he'll give you a verbal warning, and occasionally a written warning. As long as you're cooperative and pull over when he puts his lights on, explain to him where you're going and are polite, he will likely not charge you with anything. I remember one time my buddy and i were driving our quads down the side of a 4 lane street with a curb and sidewalks (used to be two lanes but they widened it and we didn't have another route to take and couldn't get in the ditch cause there wasn't a ditch), and we were worried about getting stopped by the cops. Well sure enough a cop stopped us and we explained to him that we knew we weren't supposed to be on the street, but we had no other route to go and were unaware that this route had become a 4 lane highway. So he told us that we needed to get home and he gave us an escort home! It was great...we had a cop car follow us all the way home on the street (about 8 miles), and the best part was that we knew we couldn't get in trouble by the cops for being on the street anymore! So do yourself a favor and don't run from the cops unless you know 100% positive that you have a good way to avoid him and hide.
