i beg to differ but at the same time i can sympathize, used is great if you want a project and want something custom, i wouldnt pay a dime more than i did for my 400ex but when you add it all up i got an insane deal, how else can you get a tricked out 440ex for under $3500 than to buy used? i didnt pay $3500 up front but rather $1300 for a quad that has had the **** BEATEN OUT OF IT and under $2200 in parts and accessories, oh yea i knew the previous owner of my 400ex personally an he's a half retarded alcoholic that beat the livng crap outta that quad then he would stumble off it and lt his dumba$$ son ride it, usually drunk or high, man he used to jump that thing 15 feet high goin 40-50mph and would always land wrong and always over revved the engine, never did a wheelie without slamming down on the gab bar and only used the clutch if he wasnt drunk enough. now i know what you're thinking, im te stupidest mother fxcker alive for buying that quad but no, everything that was broke on i i intended to fix or replace, it was the perfect quad for my application. i mean i replaced just about everything and now its 100% perfect except for the front shocks, i'll prolly have $4000 into it total when its all done, another thing, if i didnt have an ebay account i wouldn't have even thaught about buying that quad, eby saved me at least $1000-$1500 and i sold my old stock parts on there, making some money back. as for that 400ex for $1150, i know the guy and he drives it sensably but the previous owner beat it up pretty bad but not nearly as bad as mine was. to tell you the truth if i had the money i would buy it but i got $100 right now and still hve to buy shocks so im passing on the deal

only cuz the front end is heavy as **** and the 400ex is a wheelie machine...

Hey I'd buy the one for $1150 in a heartbeat! If it is working even if it is slightly trashed that is a deal. I agree on buying used too! Some of us can't afford the big bucks up front. It is a little easier to buy used cheaper & add your mods to make a better qaud for the same money for new. You can also do it as the budget permits. I'd love to get the new 450 too but I got no chance right now!
