any news on a 650EX?

I too would love to see a big bore Honda. I thought that they're next quad after the 400EX would be a 650EX. I was wrong and so were alot of other people. It would not make any sense from a business standpoint to produce the 650EX. You have the CRF/450R engine that makes equal to if not more power than the XR650R engine. Also the 450R seems to be made for the average rider more than the YFZ that caters to the real racer. I just don't think that Honda is a leader in motorcycle/ATV technology anymore. They had their time in the spotlight. Since Honda stopped production on the 250R in 1988 they have lost alot of business and respect. Yamaha has never left the sport quad segment, the Banshee, Blaster and Warrior have been around since the 80's.
HONDA JUST DOESN'T HAVE THE TESTICULAR FORTITUDE TO STEP UP AND MAKE SOMETHING AWESOME!!
They take orders from their lawyers instead of the people that work for them.
Yamaha is the only company that seems to care about the sport quad segment. Since the 400EX came about in late 1998, Yamaha has stepped up with the Raptor, upgraded the Blaster with modern looks and disc brakes, fixed tranny problems along with other stuff on the Raptor, updated every one of their sport quads and came out with the awesome YFZ450 and the Warrior based Raptor 350. Honda on the other hand has had BNG ( Bold New Graphics ) since 1998. The only new sport quads they have came out with have been the 250EX and the 450R which are both good quads I'm sure but not the market leaders like the Yamaha's.
Honda needs to stop worrying so much about their cars and SUV's and get back into the motorcycle/ATV segment.

True true. I'm a Honda fan (interested in a Civic lol) but It's clear to me that they are digging a hole for themselves. As if Yamaha's competition wasnt enough, now Suzuki comes in with their Z400 and I would buy a Z over an EX anyday because it's got more power and reverse. Honda should come out with a 4wd sport quad...that would be awesome.

jed250, you are right. If Honda would do something like that it would totally be cool. But, like I said
HONDA JUST DOESN'T HAVE THE TESTICULAR FORTITUDE TO STEP UP AND MAKE SOMETHING AWESOME!!
I would really like to see Honda come out with a big-bore sport quad, a true sport 4x4 and a new mini quad that is worth a crap.
Never gonna happen tho. I am done with Honda.
Clapper, where do you ride at?

this is quite amazing. knowsalot started this whole 650ex crap a few years ago. said some "buddy"(i bet) at honda trold him it was around the corner. i remember everyone on these forums staying up to 2 and 3 in the morning one night to see what they would do. wow. we got the rancher 400at.lmfao! he was then blackballed from the forum. then their was this whole 350ex thing he claimed that had some honda utility engine (i dont keep up with 4x4s) in it. wow! nothing at all happened.funny how you guys get sucked into this stuff when you start believeing someone who you dont even know who says he and some guy work for honda. wake up people.there will never be a 650ex. honda would have done it a few years ago when the raptor was released if such an animal actually existed.

I have no doubt that they did build a prototype and have been playing with it for a couple of years, but will they produce it?? That is the big question and it will hinge on demand for such a quad, being that the Raptor sells well they should bring it out soon.

Ditto, saw it with my own two eyes. Looked like every other 400ex-XR650 conversion but this one was piloted by Honda employees and was stuffed back in a white box van with California plates when we got to close. This all happened in the winter of 2000-01.
