need help with rear bearings
#1
Hi all....
I have a 2001 400ex that has some play in the rear axle bearings.I got the new bearings but I can not figure out how the heck to get the axle out.
I have never put rear axle bearings in anything to even compair it to but I am about ready to say screw it and wait til I got the money to pay a shop to
go threw the rear end.any help would be great.also once I get the axle out (if I get it out)are there anything else I need to be aware of.
Thanks in advance.....

Best thing to do is buy a manual. Getting the axle out is very easily done, and should take about a half hour for a newbie that has a little wrenching abilities. But if you want to tackle it yourself:
take off right rear wheel-17mm lugs
take off right rear hub-27mm nut and cotter pin
take off rear caliper-12mm nuts
take off rotor-6mm allen head
loosen axle lock nut-reverse threaded-I forget size,I threw mine out long ago
loosen swingarm pinch bolt-6mm allen heads
you will expose a snap ring by doing the above step. Take it off.
you will see another snap ring for the brake stay. Take it off.
set chain to the side
If I remember right, you can now slide your axle out to the left.

Thanks alot QuadFather......I took it to work and did it.The leftside bearing was trashed.and I mean trashed.I will probably be alittle faster now since that unit rolls much better.LOL.That little clip under the pinch bolt is what was getting me stumpped.
But thanks for your help man.....Only took about 2 hours inbetween cars.
