I had mine since new in '86. Their are tons of parts for them, easy to maintain, great to ride. All in all aguably the best quad ever produced even when compared to the both new 450r's. I've owned and sold a lot of quads over the years but the only one that has never been sold is the R.

I loved my 250R. My YFZ has surpassed it. Ergo's are better, suspension isn't even in the same league, faster. More tame when I want it to be. For me summer 03 ended the 250R rein on the best ever mass produced quad. It comes a little higher price though. As for the Honda 450R? I don't know because I don't own one.

The R is known for it's superior handling since the 80's even to this day and is very very light (328lbs) stock. In the air, very easy to manuever(forgive spelling). It's finally been surpassed stock for stock by the YFZ. These two machines are very alike also. For MX as a four stroke, currently, the YFZ is superior. In MX for 2 stroke, the trx250r still reigns because of it's handling and power-to-weight ratio like the YFZ. If you don't mind owning a 2 stroke, I'm sure you'll be really happy with the trx. You can get any aftermarket part in the world for it if you want.

Ditto!!!!

Rude Dog

P.S. Actually "I" still have my 250R. Only complaint: In stock form it's a little under powered in the sand.

Doug Gust says the 250r frame is still the best for mx. Even compared to the YFZ. My R is for sale if you're interested. $4800
