about to start racing XC
i have a 86 Honda 250R that i bought off of a guy that raced XC and it's setup to run off race gas right now and i am going to race XC this season and i wanted to know what all i may have to do to make it run on 94 octane pump gas. I'm pretty sure that all i have to do is get a new cylinder head that is setup to run on pump gas. Or do i have to get a whole new cylinder too. the reason is because i don't have alot of money for race gas cause i'm only 16, but with gas prices keep rising i just decide to leave it the way it is. I would pay 1.83 a gallon for 94 octane here in PA, but i would only be paying 2.30 a gallon for airplane gas which is about the same thing as race gas. the airplane gas is 110 octane. So i'm not paying too much difference between the prices and i heard race gas only makes it run cooler not better, is this true.
Thanks

How much are the parts? How much do you ride? If the parts are say, $100, and the difference in price of gas is $0.50 per gallon, it would take 200 gallons to pay off the part change. At 20 mpg, that's 4000 miles. I would figure out how long it would take to pay back the parts before making the switch. Rarely does paying to use cheaper (or less) gas make economic sense.

i been running airplane fuel in my 250R and it makes it run just as good as the race gas that was in it when i got it. i don't know how hard it is to get that kinda gas up in NY, but here in PA it's harder than hell to get it for a cheap price. the only dealership around my place is the damn Yamaha shop and i don't go there very often, the only time i went there was to buy Bel Ray Gear Saver oil and muffler packing for the Suzuki. i called a parts shop up and they told me that i could get Klotz 110 guess what the price was. 40.00 for 5 gallon, geez i'm not rich. i think i'll stay with the airplane fuel since it's only 2.30 a gallon and it makes the quad run just as good.
