Owners manual VS my dealer
#1
I want to do the 100 mile maint my self but, I am unsure of what to do. Owners manual says to change oil and filter and that is it. My dealer says the first service they do is more involved such as changing ALL the fluids in the bike as well as a new spark plug and Valve adjustment. So should I pay the 180.00 $ for the dealer service or just do what owners manual says and change the oil?

As per Honda Shop Manual: Which ever comes first; 100 miles, 20 hours:
1. inspect valve clearance
2. replace oil
3. replace oil filter
4. inspect engine idle speed
5. inspect brake system
6. inspect reverse lock system
7. inspect clutch system
8. inspect nuts, bolts, fasteners (re-torque)
9. inspect wheels/tires
Spark plug, $2
Honda Shop Manual, $40 - $50
2 qts Honda GN4 oil $8
filter $8
gaskets, drain plug gasket, o-rings $5
Your cost $73, and you get to keep the factory Honda Shop Manual that you should have anyway.

If you're mechanically inclined, there's no reason to pay them to do it, except for the possible warranty issues if you have problems later. Save your receipts for oil and filter. As far as changing the front and rear differential oils goes, for the sake of a little 80w90 gear oil, it's worth doing. When I first got mine (used), I changed every fluid in it except brake fluid, after the first few hours of driving, then flushed it out and changed it again. That washes out any residual debris from wear that may be in the cases. In your case, the new gears are going to wear a bit in the first miles of use, leaving small bits of metal in the oil. Once they've worn in, as they should have by now, you won't see any appreciable amount of metal. Change the fluids now, it'll add a couple of bucks to the bill, and maybe an hour to the time you spend.
