JP, your right, so are you Gary. I AM EXTREMELY lucky to have her, even luckier to be gettign married to her on the 27th of February, on the beach in Cancun. She lets me do whatever I want to the quad when I want ( you should see her's). I was in the middle of putting new cabinets in the kitchen when my 450R came in. She let me leave the house in a disaster for a week, so I could mod my 450R every night after work.
Tellico, I will only waste one more sentance on you. Do I need to show you how to search for your own posts?
I would like it wider, faster, lighter, stronger, and BLACK.

And finally, Tellico-- I LOATH you!!!!!!!!! < Did those exclamation points get you moist? I mean really, lay of the punctuation you friken dink. You're like a nat at a barbeque, just buggin' the pi$$ out of everybody. And about the seat, NO ONE likes the hard seat of the YFZ! Back when Cannondale started out, they also had this problem and they addressed it during actual production- why can't Yamaha. I can slide around on my 250R or 400ex just as well as I could on a YFZ- it is not a racing issue, it's stupidity. And after a day's riding, there is no monkey butt to suffer through. Not everyone has such a thoroughly callused fudge factory like you must have. If you had the option for a softer seat that was the same thickness, I bet you'd take it. Just as the old man yells to the stray dog, "Getonouttahyer", I say to you- Leave. Your opinions are not valued here and you have a completely closed mind to change. You are useless to myself and every other member on these forums; go away and never come back. We don't like you.
Can I get an Amen?

How about just removing all of the seat foam, and make it the hardest, most uncomfortable seat in the industry, just like the YFZ.
ME...
That would be fine. They it would be more like a dirt bike huh. At least you can move around on the seat without having to stand up. It sure as hell is a lot less fatiguing after an 8 hour day than a Z400 seat. Just because it's cushy doesn't mean it won't wear you out or cut off leg circulation over the edges.
what kind of bed do you all sleep on? A cotton ball or a semi firm matress? Same thing.

Back to the original post.
I would change the gearing just a bit in regards to first gear. If I did my calculations right, the final drive ratio on the 450R for first gear is very similar to that of a 400EX in second gear. Also, that is how it felt when I lugged the quad in first gear. This wasn't terribly hard to do either. That is the only complaint that I have about the 450R. Everything else is awesome. I've since changed the front sprocket to a 13 tooth crf450 front sprocket and the quad seems to lug quite well. Further testing is needed though. The change won't be for everyone, just my two cents. In stock form, the gearing of the 450R is not the best for trail riding in my opinion. That is based on actually owning the quad and not something I've seen on paper. However, once I lit her up - 3k or so RPMs and up, she was a bad biooootch flying through the trails and handling sweet.
Long story short, I was disappointed with the low end lug of the stock 450R gearing. I think most who buy the quad for trail riding may be a little disappointed as well. The resolution to the problem was very simple, a $30 front sprocket and half an hour of wrench time.
Now my 450R is one bad mother, not claiming to be the best or knocking anyone else's quad. But it deserves more credit than is normally given.

The stock handlebars have to go, but that is true of EVERY bike ever produced. Also needs a full chassis/swingarm skid plates, bumper, nerf bars, just like any bike does.
Stock tires won't last one ride out here in the desert. I will quickly swap them out for Holeshot XC's on ITP Baja rims. In the rear, the ITP rims are 1" wider than stock and have a 1" greater offset. So, that should put me right at 50" wide in the back!!! Fronts will be 2" wider with the ITP's.
Might go one tooth bigger on the back sprocket, to get a little more low end. Will have to put in some more saddle time to know for sure.
