#1
my 4 month old 450 es honda caught fire on saturday morning. something on or in the motor or carburator started it. it only had 110 miles on it. i got it out of the shop on friday and it caught fire on saturday. honda says it is not under warranty. spread the news, i still like honda the best, but they do not stand behind their bikes or their dealers. my bike was a total loss and honda does not care. please help spread this. i want to make a statement to honda.

450fire,
What did you have your quad in the shop for? Electrical problems? Gas leak?
Sounds like an issue that your dealer should address whether it be them or Honda to blame for the fire.
Your quad is still under warranty and I cannot see why Honda wouldn't want to cover it unless the fire was started by an acessory that you added.......and if that was the case, you are responsible for it if you installed it and the dealer's problem if he installed it.
Give us more info.

there were no added accesories except boot guards and 26' 589 titans.it was in the shop because it would not crank. the honda shop changed the spark plug------------------------and get this, they worked on the carburator.luckly i had insurance on it, but i am still losing money.
the fire start saturday morning as i was easing along. i was pull a little trailer with limbs on it, when i notice some smoke come up. when i looked down i saw flames and jumped off. within seconds after i got to my feet the fourwheeler was blazing. i ran to my jeep and drove to a neighbors place. we brought back a fire extinuisher, but it was no use. i have never hear of this happening.

there is really not more to it. something around the motor caught on fire, now i have no 4wheeler and honda says fire is no under warranty. a fire investigator for my insurance looked at it today. i am new to this site, if there is a way let me know how to post pictures.

I have only seen a couple of fires in my entire career. All of them being caused by winches not installed correctly and fuel related problems[of course]
I find it unbelievable that your dealer just left you hanging on this with the BIG factor being that it came from their shop the day before.
If your sparkplug cap was loose and causing it to arch.......and if there were fuel on the engine from the carb work that was performed.....that would most definately cause a fire.
Another thing, and I have seen this happen personally, is that the float needle hangs......which fills the carb with to much fuel and spits it out the overflow tube and into the airbox.........leaking on the exhaust and causing a fire.
I would be down at your dealer talking to the OWNER [Not the manager] and ask him/her to look into it for you if nothing else before giving up.
