Its funny to see this post after what i saw today.. i went to visit my brother today and we ended up taking my brothers 440 ex out to a track were i grew up and we got to see a 450R & Yfz and 2 Ex's Drag racing on pole road ( old highway ) it was pretty awsome to watch the TRX and YFZ run side by side the YFZ only won by a neck.. as far as i know they were both stock but i think that 1 of the Ex's was mildly modded because it was way ahead of the other one but not no where near the TRX or YFZ..
I personally feel that us YFZ Riders may have some competition with the TRX once the mods hit the market...

seems like the honda 450 gains more HP everyday. The gutted the crf dirtbike engine and now it makes more power. LOL The450 will handle better than a rappy but the straight line is a different story. Honda should stick to racing cannonfails.
Honda did make a improved 400ex, only problem is the women will have to learn to kick start it. LOL

To reply to an earlier post about the Z vs. the 450, all I know is what I saw. They were almost even at the start depending on who got a better launch, and then the Z would slowly pull away by about a bike length. Could the Z have had more work than was stated by the owner? Sure it could have. But say if it was a 440, I would think that an HRC 450 should smoke it. If it was still at 400cc, then that makes it even worse. As far as the 450 rider being a novice, I think he had some experience by the way he was handling the whoops at the bottom of the hill. Hell, I'm a honda fan anyways, but have to say that like many others, I'm a little disappointed that they tout it as a "race quad" when it needs almost as much work as the rest do. The CRF motor with trans improvements would have been better, not a de-tuned re-design that, while runs well, it aint all that.

Ok, well you guys can believe what you want to believe. I gave you my test results and you can talk all the crap you want. Regardless, I have a sweet machine setting in my garage that will haul @ss, fly and handle as good as any quad out there.
100 yard race on beach. stock tires.
450R with HRC kit, 13T front sprocket 210lb rider
400EX with airbox, jet, fmf.... 240lb rider. (roughly the same speed as a totally stock z400, if not a hair faster)
My friend is actually a better rider. He is much better at shifting at the correct RPM whereas I tend to hit the rev limiter more often.
The 450R would win by 1/3rd of the total distance.
It's just pathetic how the forum hosers want to talk their smack without a clue of what the 450R is capable of. Yes, the 450R is going to be beat by this and that. All quads get beat. The 450R with the HRC kit, 13 t sprocket and aftermarket pipe will hold it's own against any quad out there with comparable mods. I'm waiting on the aftermarket pipes to come out and that will be my last power mod. I really don't care about who has the highest top speed. Acceleration, handling and a warrantied product are more important to me. I have that now and the aftermarket pipe will only help.
Enjoy your quads, but do a reality check. I'm not saying the 450R will be the fastest or quickest quad. But it will hold it's own against any quad out there with comparable mods.

I'll race any trx450 in quarter mile. Change some sprockets and i'll race any trx450 in a 300 ft. drag. My $1800 shee will win. I promise. Trx450 riders should stay at the mx track where they belong and get roosted by some dirtbikes. Better yet, stay at exriders.com and make yourself feel better about spending $6500 on a quad that isn't the best at anything.
