Which shocks would be better?

I'm sure you know more about what we are talking about than I do, so I'm sure that I'm the one thats confused. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

I was under the impression that the compression and rebound adjusters used the check-ball technology, and were the primary adjustment for valving. I'm getting the impression though, that you are saying that the piston itself is the primary valving, and the adjusters for compression and rebound are unrelated secondary valving...?

Yes, Ryan- the compression and rebound are secondary valving only. I am pretty sure that a shock with ball valving cannot even have rebound control and the compression dampening is only controlling the amount of nitrogen pressure put on the oil inside the shock body. The nitrogen pressure comes from the cannister. The compression adjustment on the cannister is essentially just an air regulator like you would find on an air compressor. You can change variably between say maybe 40psi up to 120psi.

Someone chime in if I have said something stupid, but I am certain this is how it goes.
