You guys crack me up
More Raptor owners call their quad a Craptor than owners of any other models, and this is because its true and you can blame yami for this one 100%.
The warrior may not be the fastest quad around nor the best handing but you dont see anyone who owns one bashing it like the raptor owners do theirs. As stated earlier nothing is perfect and I will add that many of the problems are from maint and abuse, but we can accept these things when they are the cause and not faulty engineering from the mfg.
I think much of the anger about the raptor has everything to do with selling your old quad to buy the biggest baddest new one (just what the raptor was billed as originally) and finding it was not what you were expecting beyond the power, and spends most of its time broken down. Then when you go to pick up your brand new disapointment from being repaired at the dealer they hand you a bill for the work. I know too well how this BS went down and why it is this way, and its all about yami's greed.
The previous owner of my Ex sold to move to a new 02 Craptor that we have modded out about as much as you can except for a big bore and any real expensive shocks or front end and it does rip real well but every time he gets to take a run on what his old quad has become he knows and admits that he made a mistake and was "fooled" by yami.
If you dont believe me maybe the fact it is for sale (cheap also) and the owner is going back to dirt bikes would help you absorb the truth.
Before you yami or raptor loyalists attack me or make a spectacle of yourselves understand I own a yami worrior and like to ride it and the craptor as well, and there both great trail quads (sorry guys no dunes to race up here, and we have turns and even some bumps lol) and the raptor is to me no more than a more powerfull better suspended version of the warrior with a lot more hype and better marketing.
The YFZ on the other hand is a whole other story and I have applauded yami many times on their accomplishment with this quad. They still have much work to do on this model also but this is by far their best effort and results (funny how they work hand in hand LOL) to date in a overall package on a quad.
And if you (no one inparticular) are upset with anything you just read please dont take your anger with yami for "fooling" you on the raptor out on me.

I owned a Raptor and a 400EX. I'd take the 400EX any day of the week. We rode XC and the Raptor was too tall and heavy to ride all day in tight woods. I was just as fast but I got tired quicker on the Raptor. I got suckered by the hype when the Raptor got released and walked into a dealership and bought it without ever seeing it in person. I sold it after 6 months and the new owner is now assembling parts for a tranny rebuild. I bought a used 400EX that had more hours on it than a floozie at the Mustang Ranch and didn't have a single problem with it. I'll be the first to admit that in a straight line a stock Raptor will flat out eat a 400EX. But, I don't think anyone can argue reliability records between the 400EX and the Raptor. Of course you've got the extremes at both ends where one guy has had zero problems with the EX or the Raptor and you'll have another guy that's had nothing but problems with either bike but for the most part the 400EX easily gets the nod for reliability.

As for the Craptor thing....1/2 the Raptor owners in the Yamaha forum call their own bikes that. It's just a name that floats around.
As for the comment of ride one and you'll find out.....I think after you climb off your 27hp EX, and get on a 37hp stock Raptor, you guys are just so scared and insecure that you have to talk crap to live with the embarassment.

Anyways, all quads have their faults. I wanted similar power of the YFZ with the ergonomics of a 400EX. The 450R is the closest match to what I was looking for. I can jump higher in first gear with the 450R than I could in 3rd gear with the 400EX and I can accelerate very quickly as well.
My point is that you should be happy with the quad that you bought and not talk trash on other people's machines. You'll notice that my post doesn't say anything negative about the raptor, just the results of this weekend's drags. Funny enough, I've heard a lot of Yamaha owners refer to their raptors as craptors with an odd fondness for the unique beast that it is. Not really sure why it is that you choose to talk crap about other people or their rides.
Enjoy your quad, it's a fine machine and it sounds as though you are constantly improving it. I can't knock a guy for that, I mean who doesn't like to put mods on their quad.

if you dont like the name calling then why start a thread crying about it when you know its only gonna get worse when eveybody reads it. STOP CRYING AND START RIDING WHO CARES WHO BEATS WHO

Yes, ex'xes are very slow, but raptors are not that much faster in stock form, and I really don't think a raptor can beat a 450r in any form!
And usually Craptor is just a nickname. Back in summer, I got into a bad habit of calling my Raptor that. Usually it's just a name. I don't figure it's cause every Raptor tears up everyday. I ride with several differnt Raptor's and none have had trouble yet. Oh yeah, there was one. One guy's fan sensor went out.
As for mine, the starter and clutch went, but yamaha covered both on warrenty. The clutch went out because of tight trails and hill climbs, and was my fault. The starter just went on it's own. But yamaha stood behind their product, no question's asked.
