Need Help !!!! Best sand tires for 450R ????
I guess I'm the only person on here that dislikes Haulers. I ebayed off a set of 21x12x8 10 paddle extremes. I hated them. The only other paddle tire that I have ran was the 21x12x10 18 paddle staggered cut Padla Brats from Sand Tires Unlimited. These were way better for riding and racing on my Banshees.
One of the big differences is the ride quality. I had the 18 paddle Padla Brat with 1/2 of each paddle cut off. (So they should be equivalent to a 9 paddle.) Since the paddles are closer together than the Haulers, you don't get the up & down effect at low speeds.
Need more traction, you can adjust how much traction you need by custom cutting. Whereas 1/2 of each paddle are cut off of mine, you can opt for 1/2" overlap making it more like an 11 paddle, or 1" overlap, etc.
The Padla Brats are also a better tire to follow. These tires throw roost, but not as ridiculously as the Haulers. No one could ride within 50 ft of me without getting dusted when I ran the Haulers.
I ordered a new set of Padla Brats because they were faster on my bike. They were very close in size to my Haulers, only difference was 10 paddle Haulers vs. the 18 "1/2" paddle Brats (which are basically 9 paddle). The Padla Brats were way faster in the dune drags where we raced (more than 300 ft). In 300 ft, maybe the Haulers would have been faster. But for the way that we race, which is probably closer to 500ft, my Banshee was probably 4 bike lengths faster.
Back to the topic. If I was wanting a good set of tires for a 450R and wasn't too concerned about the cost, I would highly consider a custom cut set of Sand Tires Unlimited Mini-Desert Traks.

If your rear paddles are staggard then you will get a violent shacking/vibration when taking off from a stand still. take the time to match the rear paddle perfect, and that shake will be gone.
To do this just take the rear tire off at the hub,and rotate it till the paddles are straight with each other.
bigger.
Best tire out thier for the YFZ(drag racing) 21/11/8 tripple buff 7-8 paddle(NO MORE)

I just ordered some 20x11x8 ITP Sand Stars after debating between Sand Devils, Sand Sharks, and Sand Stars. They seemed like the best of both worlds (in this price range). With the extra mini-paddles, they should have better hook up than the Sharks, but with the same turning ability. Besides, they look cool.
If I were into drag racing, I would have gone with Haulers of some sort, but these seemed like the best all around option to me for general dune cruisin'. I'll let everyone know what I think after I try them out...it will probably be at least a month before I make it to the dunes though...
