My old girlfriend has a 250X...what should you know about it? Well, it ain't the fastest thing around but it sure is fun. It's also got a manual clutch (left hand lever). So, if you don't know how to use one, learn fast =) I'll give you a quick lesson on the manual clutch....
Pull the left hand lever in, push the shifter down (1st gear), slowly release the clutch lever while at the same time giving the quad just a little gas, not too much to make her jump away on ya but not too little to make her stall...you'll get the hang of it. After first gear, you have the option of using it for the rest of the gears...or maybe you don't...my girlfriend wouldn't let me shift without the clutch so I don't know. On my Blaster and Banshee, I only use the clutch for first gear and got downshifting.
Second, there is reverse on this sport quad =) It's a red-tabbed lever located on the right side of the quad. It's rigt on the engine. To get it in reverse, push the Red button down (this button is on the left hand lever...same lever you use for the clutch)and pull back real hard...push that red tabbed lever on the right side of the quad down and you've got the thing in reverse...just remember to use the clutch or else she'll stall =)
Well, I'm not a master with the 250X...just ridden it five or six times...I'm sad to say that those Blasters riding around your town will be able to beat you in a drag race, but don't get me wrong, these quads are good for trails and such. Also, you'll be able to smoke those work quads =) And as for the 3 wheelers...I dunno...some are fast as hell while others are just moderately fast.
Just remember to adjust your chain and oil it often!!
As for purchasing it used...look for any thing you would with any used quad. Check the frame for dents, cracks, or bends. Look for cracked paint where the frame bends. This means the frame has been bent a little. Look for any welds that might have been done due to something breaking. Check the chain on it. Make sure it's an O or X-ring chain and not a cheap non o-ring chain (like mine) =). Start the quad up. Listen for knocks and pings and rattles that don't sound normal. Take her for a ride. Notice and pulls in the steering that may be due to bent a-arms or tie rods. And lastly, check the tires for holes, plugs, or patches and check the wear on the tires.
If you like what you see at a good price, go ahead and buy it. The 250X is a fun quad. It's also a Honda so you know it'll last =)
