Default Raced a stock Raptor today......

Not much info, raced a stock raptor today. Both had stock tires on a slightly muddy road. In 100 yards, I had him by at least 10 bike lengths. Once the raptor hit 3rd gear, it held it's own though. Me 210lbs- Raptor owner 240. No incline.

Not talking trash or anything, just to give people an idea of the relative speed. I think with a pipe, airbox and jetting it would be a very close race though. At that point, I think the deciding factor would be whoever got the holeshot.

Anyways, not trying to start a flame war.... Just providing feedback to those who are looking at 450R or raptor.... In reverse, there was no competition- The raptor had me by 100 yards.

Yeah, I had the holeshot everytime.... Funny thing though, we both had a hard time keeping the front end down... I can't pick on the raptor for that one anymore....

All said and done, when the 450R, YFZ, Raptor, DS650, Pred, have decent mods without engine work- they are all pretty d@mn fast. To me a couple of quad lengths in 100 yards is marginal and really becomes less of a factor in the quad decision.

learning2fly Your quad is far from Stock though. Do you think a Stock 450r would be a good race against a Stock Raptor. What would win in a 100 yards and by how far.

yamaharideronly-I was at the dunes today and i saw a stock 450r and a stock raptor race a couple of times up our local competition hill and it was very close with the honda taking the raptor by maybe a quad length in a 300 foot race. These results may mean nothing because i have no idea about the riding skills of these two riders as compared to each other but the honda did seem to be stronger overall once they hit mid hill.

i beat a piped raptor today too. the key is getting off the line. the raptor was pulling on me once we were in 4th, but he couldn't catch me by the end because i would get him off the line. if we went farther, he would have passed me since he obviously would have more top speed than i do. i am not quite sure the distance we raced. it was probably a little longer than 100 yards. i would not quite get into 5th gear when the end of the field came around.

forgot to mention, this is on a mild 10.5:1 406ex with a hotcam. i wasn't on a 450r.

?????

Maybe I'm reading your post wrong, but you seem confused. The 450R won with its mods over the stock raptor. I dont' think it speaks poorly of the rap either, since the rider said once the rap hit 3rd it held it's own against the 450R. Perhaps a longer race would have a different outcome??

YamahaRiderOnly- I've never had mine stock. I picked up the 450R with the HRC kit installed. I would have to say that stock for stock I think the 450R would win, but the difference would be marginal (1-2) quad lengths.

NLWarrior01 - Thanks for properly interpreting what I was trying to say.

cals400ex- You hit on one of the points that I was trying to make as well. From 3rd gear on up, the raptor was a very formidable opponent.

That is what I saw when watching a race between a HRC kit Honda and a piped and jetted Raptor. It was within one or 2 bikes , but, my buddy was just shifting into 4rth gear so he may have passed the Honda. Either way, that new Honda runs good.
