I have to reserve my true thoughts until I ride the Ruby.I seen one yesterday at the dealership. My first impressions were NOT that good.It still looks just like a Foreman. It still is equipped with drum brakes, ground clearance is incorrect,it still has a solid rear axle. How in the hell can anyone claim that the Ruby rides as good as the IRS on the Sportsman?Another thing, whats up with the tiny seat on the Ruby?Match it up to that of the Sportsmans, you cant.I love the Idea behind the tranny on this Honda, but I wont sell my Polaris Sportsman or Xplorer 4x4s just yet.====Bill

As soon as I can get the friend I sold my SP500 too, to go riding with me I will try and find out. He and his wife just had a baby and he doesn't get out much right now. Of course, I might have a slight advantage. I am 6'1" 225 and my friend is 6'7" 270. I still think it would be a good race as long as his belt doesn't slip due to his weight. Just kidding. I never had a problem with it slipping. Any way, as soon as we get a chance we'll put them to the test.
By the way Greg, my wallet is flat.

Bill-my 300's seat was plenty big and the Rubicon's is much larger. Exactly how big IS your butt?? Just kidding.

Remember-- the smaller the seat is, the CLOSER she she sits to you.

TxDoc2,
I'm a first time poster,I have been reading the posts for some very good info(and have found it).

I notice you recently got the Rubicon, how long is the standard warranty, and can you get extended coverage?

This will be my first quad,I'm an old guy and have been riding 2 wheels all my life(last 8 years a BMW R100GS).
I have gone over all the available data on the Utility Quads which would best suit my needs, and have decided on the Rubicon.
I was just curious about warranties, etc.
Thanks for any imput.

Regards

Doc,
Not that I go around sporting a big butt or anything, but there really is a big differance in the seating room on these two quad seats.[Sportsman and Foreman]I hardly ever ride double,so she's not getting much of a chance to ride closer to me anyways.====Bill

Well that is true the smaller the seat the closer she has to sit to you, but all of us Polaris riders already have them wanting to sit close to you after she has seen that beautiful Sportsman you are rideing. Besides she might be mad at you after you go for a long ride on that Honda when her but is sore from that small seat and solid axle ride. hehehe

Women love the Polaris seat, I could never have another ATV without a big seat like the SP500, We sat on other atv's when looking for a new one it was like she was either cramming me on the tank or she was on the rack, but the SP fit just right. It is the best for riding double as all Polaris utilities are. Though the Kawasaki Praire's have a decent seat. got to admit after seeing a Ruby the other day it looks like a Foreman, and it does have a smallish seat, looks nice though I always liked the looks of the Foreman (they look tough). but to stiff of a ride for me.

Now lets just say your SP turns out to give you no problems (it happens alot) what than is the Rubicon advantages? The Ruby cost more, has drum brakes, smaller tank(less range),less suspension travel in the rear,no selectable or true 4wd,less true ground clearance and if you tie them together for a pull off the Sportsman will drag the ruby in the bushes and rape it because of the surperior traction system.

Tim,

There was a post a few week back where a SP500 & Honda 450 did a stopping contest. Can you guess the results? If you said Honda, then you were correct. The 450 stopped a full quad length before the SP500. The SP500 disk brakes must have a hard time slowing down that heavy quad!

Snowshark,
The comparison was one between 2 new quads with shiny new brakes. Run them through water and mud for a few hours and then do the comparison.
