Need to know about 86 honda fourtrax 350 4x4?
Hey Yall,
Im new to this forum, but I need to know about a 1986 honda fourtrax 350 4x4. I figured someone out there would know. If it was taken care of, is it a good dependable atv? Is $1600 too much to pay for one that is in good shape? How well do they hold up in the mudd and in straight aways or top speed? Any other information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Good deal if the front end is tight.
Those model's front drive train is anything but up to date and the cost to repair them is very expensive ompared to any other ATV. this goes for the front swingarm parts, axles, ring and pionion gears, and even the differential bearing themselves.
Look the front over good and if it seems to be OK, I say go for it. If it's not OK, make a mental note of what needs replaced and get with your dealer on prices before buying.

My father has one it is a verry tough bike not made for and racing or jumping they are verry heavy but have good power and are quite good in the mud. There are a few here in halifax in realy good shape they are asking 3500 CDN for them. More than what I would pay for a bike that is almost 20 years old but they are tough. They have a solid front end and arn't the easyest thing to steer.

I always thought they were the most troublesome of Honda ATV's in the mid 80's. Never had much front end probs, although I agree it could be debilitatingly expensive if it were the case. I saw more stuff like fuel pumps (only Honda ATV that comes with one), plug fouling (needle jet set will fix it), saw some carbs break the slide to butterfly linkage, had several that "consumed intake valves" and broke guides, starters and brushes weren't the greatest, Sometimes the starter clutches get weak and allow the engine to kick back and break the starter gears, then the teeth would get in the stator and wreck that (a particularily ugly and expensive repair), and finally had some rocker arm\camshaft wear problems. I know that all sounds bad but overall it wasn't a bad machine, especially for its time. I would say if you hear any noises when cranking it over, or hear a loud snap when turning the machine off, stay away from it.

so other than everything going wrong with it, it is a good machine?lol jk Hmmm Im just wondering if I should buy this machine. Im going up this week to look at it and its kind of far from me, but the place that has it says its in great shape except for the seat has a small crack in it and it has a coupe of small cracks in the plastic. Here is a link to what it looks like. I know you cant tell to much from the picture. I asked a lot of questions about it and he said the gears and motor are in great shape and make no noises such as rattling and the motor doesnt leak oil. Thanks for all the input...
