Default 300EX rear axle is binding up need help!!!!!

The rear axle on my 2002 300 EX is binding up when it spins and it snaps and then frees up. I tolck the chain and brake caliper off so it is just the axle spinning. What do you think could be my problem I hope it's just the bearings. Has anyone had this problem before or have any other ideas. I will have to tear the axle out this week. Can some one post pics or any usefull info on how to get the axle apart! Thanks!

I had the same problem. It ended up being that my axle carrier broke. I dunno how it did, but it was 220 dollars to fix it. Hopefully, for you , it is just bearings which are only 80 dollars.

ypu prolly threw the bearings.if you did you will prolly have to get a new carrier too and will need to either get a new axler or get that one reworked if the bearings spun on it.with out the axle your lookin at about $300 with a new axle too prolly about $500.and you might have to get new chain and sprockets.

That's not what I wanted to hear! I hope that it's just the bearings. How can the carrier and the axle also need to be replaced. If the bearing seases up and dosen't spin? This just started the other day.

The axle dosen't bind up so hard that you can't turn it it just gets hard. It also some times will turn for quite a bit before it dose bind up. If you spin the axle backwords it seems to do it more!

Have you checked to make sure that your chain is lined properly? If you chain is not running in a straigt line then it might be kinked and that is what is causing a hard spot. Check the alignment on your axle carrier . . Do you have chain adjusters?
