450R falling short?
Well this was fun for the first 2 pages but to be honest its getting a little boring. I've got better things to do than repeat myself over and over and over. So I'm gonna say this for the final time since it only seems to be making sense to SPEEDBUMP. The 450R is a great bike, however, from the factory it is not as race ready as the YFZ - that is the bottom line. I never said I don't like the 450R but that is a factual statement. So I'm gonna leave this thread with a quote from the March 2004 issue of Dirtwheels Magazine that contained a shootout between the TRX450R, the YFZ450 and the Gas Gas.
"It is a shame that Honda didn't come with at least an electric starter. Reverse wouldn't be bad either. The machine isn't exactly easy to spin around in a tight area, due to the light front end. If your looking at this machine as a pure racer then it comes up short (isn't that what I titled this thread?!). The front end is too light. It wants to wheelie out of the corners and wants to tip entering them. With stock settings the center of gravity is on the high side. Also, at speeds, the TRX feels a bit unstable compared to the others. While the engine power is strong and smooth, it doesn't have that mid-range punch that is so important."
Go ahead and argue that one!

450R falling short?
Hey 1Bad,
I read that article in Dirtwheels too. Kinda suprised me. I'd been waiting for the 450 Honda to come out for a long time (Like everyone else). I went out and got one even after reading that article. I haven't found it tippy at all. Also I have been able to spin it in tight places without a problem. I will admit that it is not set up stock as well as the Y for racing off the showroom floor, but then how many stock quads are there out there racing?
The 450R is a great riding quad. After riding the 450 I jumped back on my 400EX and I couldn't believe how heavy it felt. Grab some seat time on a 450R and you'll love it's feel.
The "light" front end is great for high speed trail riding. I find it very easy to the front up when encountering a huge puddle while pinned in 3rd.
I'm keeping mine stock for now, I don't race. Just going to drop a tooth on the front, down to a 13.

450R falling short?
This is halarious. One person says they don't like the 450R and BOOM a billion honda racers come rushing out of there hiding spots to defend there presious name. Lighten up guys, not everyone likes honda and if 1BAD250R says he don't like it then fine. I personally agree with him. Honda went about this totally wrong to begin with and was so paraniod in keeping track with yamaha that they forgot about what they were building. Having riden both of these quads you cann't even compare the two.

1BAD250r, so you seriously thought you might get some "positive" info posting this on a honda forum? It doesnt take a genius to figure out that what you posted would get under some peoples skin, common sense shouldve told you that.
btw, thanks for the information from dirtwheels. Thats the first place i always go to get the best information, i always love the shoot-outs....um yah...

Wow, no comment, as I have ridden them both too.
I also think someone quoted, "just wait until Yamaha bumps the displacement to a true 450cc."
Wow, what will happen if Honda puts 2 cams on top of the 450R and bumps the comp. ratio?
I hope this thread turns around. I like both quads, I just like the 450R better. I also read all of the reviews before I purchased.

450R falling short?
That is exactly what I am saying. They should have done that in the first place but they were too busy playing catch up and forgot what they were doing. One would think that sence the Yamaha came out first they would take special care in building the 450R so that they could improve on everything that the YFZ was missing....this way, when It was released everything that the Yamaha didn't have, the honda would. . .
