Default Good tires, other mods for 300EX

I've got a chance to buy a 2001 300EX dirt cheap from a local dealer. The tires are completely worn out. It's for my son; he's not an aggressive rider so power mods aren't important (but input is still welcome). I'm more interested in suspension, stability and tires. I want to maintain the stock tire height as the machine will be used for trail riding and he'll need the ground clearance. Thanks, guys, I know you have a ton of info out there.

I have a 2002 300ex with lots of mods and yes the extra ground clearance would be nice but I have 20' tires on mine and it handles realy nice with them though. So it is a trade off ground clearance for handling. Check out my pics!

don't know if your interested, but i have a 400ex carb for sale that many use on their 300ex's. it will breath better and more gains will be seen with the more mods you do to the bike.

my brothers 300ex has GBC Shredder rear tires, 20x11x9, and Fast Trekker fronts tires. IMO, I like a flat tire, like Razr's, Shredders, Holeshots, ratrher than the stock ballon type tires, I feel the flat tires make the m,achine a lot more stable. you can get Shredders or Razr's in 22x11x9 if you want to keep the ground clearence.

The stockers are 20x10x9 balloons; a 20x11x9 flat profile tire like a Razr should be just as tall, shouldn't it?

Novakaw, the stocks are 22's. If you don't want to go down to a 20 inch tire, and your trails have some mud, go with a 21-12-9 GBC mudshark. They are a flat tire and since you are going down an inch in tire height and 2 inches wider, the stability will be great. If your son is not gonna hit jumps, then the stock suspension is fine. Also, get a swingarm skidplate. The stock one is like a piece of tinfoil.

Thanks for the info - I was looking on a couple of reference sites that said the rears were 20's, the Honda corporate site said 22's. Mudsharks would probably be a good choice for trail riding.

the suspension on the 300ex should be fine for your son as long as he dosnt jump big *** jumps it is pleanty bg enuf for him tire wise i would just buy some holeshots, cheap, reliable and they last long, the 300ex is a great quad and is very stable so i would just get somee new tires and let ur son hav at it, one thing he might have to get the hang onf the clutch
