Default Buying new ATV....have some ?'s

Going to be buying my first ATV soon and was wondering if the dealer will budge off msrp since I will be financing? I'm looking at the Rancher 4x4 or maybe a Foreman S. I will be using it for hunting, work and pleasure riding.

Remember, the dealer is making cash on the financing in addition to the profit on the sale of the bike. Some will try to claim that a cash deal will bring you a better price. Sometimes that's true if the salesperson is too lazy to try to get you qualified for your financing. Try to negotiate the price on the atv as a separate item from the financing. Lock in your price, then talk terms, apr, etc. They might refuse, but just don't forget that they'll be getting a cut from whatever financing institution is used, essentially as a loan broker's "commission". You should also check out the availability of financing at places other than your dealer, where you may be able to find a better rate, unless the manufacturer is running a special financing deal at the time. Chances are you can find a better rate at a credit union or bank, or you can even float the thing on credit card offers by transferring balances on those "zero percent for the first six months" offers for balance transfers on new accounts. Be creative and save yourself some money. Good luck. There's less hassle financing through the dealer, but chances are you'll do better elsewhere.

Check online for financing. I got much better interest rates shopping online. If you have a really good credit score the dealer should be able to get you a matching rate from their company. I showed the Honda dealer what I was getting and he beat by 1%. I think the Honda dealership is offering 3.9% right now if you have a good credit score.(above 700) It also depends on what you want to buy. If the model you want is flying out of the showroom they probably won't budge much.

Don't tell the salesperson how you'll be buying. It's none of their business and they don't need to know until you are ready to take it home. Just ask for the Out the Door price which will include all fees. Call around and get the best price. When you've got your best price and the quad is sitting in front of you. Then you can tell them how you'll be paying. They would rather that you finance through Honda or a lender that they have a relationship with.

Are you worried about a loan going through? If not, then don't worry about anything but getting the best price.

Thanks for the advice.

My credit is excellent so the actual financing should not be a problem. I was just curious about getting them to come down on price some. Do most of you carry your atv's on a trailer or in the back of a truck? I have an extended cab Tacoma but it looks to me like I will need a trailer, as the bed on these trucks are not very wide.

it will be a close fit. I have an enclosed 24' hauler but its not always practical to haul it for one or two machines. It depends on where I'm going/what I'm doing. I can fit 2 quads in the back of my pickup with the gate down and both of them on all four tires so I just make do. Get a small landscaping trailer and you should be fine.

I have an extended cab Tacoma and I can get my Banshee in the back and also my Rubicon fits in the bed. It's a tight fit, but it will go in there. Good luck with your first ATV, take it easy and wear all the protective gear.

I bought a trailer from our local Lowes. I think it's 5'x8'. I would like to buy a Tacoma so it's good to know that a Rubi will fit.

I carry my foreman in the back of my gmc sierra with the short box. it is tight. I will get a long box next time. I prefer the back of the truck to a trailer especially when I get to some places where turning a trailer around or backing out is a pain in the a...

As for financing I just went with the honda financing and am paying a little extra to pay it off sooner and save a little on interest. I am no big financial genius. I just wanted the bike with no hassels so I could go riding. No doubt if you like to wheel and deal you could get pre approved for a reasonable ammount and walk in and make them an offer. They will either take it or not. Example if the bike is say 5,855.99 offer him say 5,000 or 5,200 or some such and see what he says. remember the purpose of business is to make a profit. If he doesn't he cant stay in business. That does not mean you have to throw money away though. Good luck, Happy trails.
