Default 2004 Rancher 400 Dis-engaging Tranny

I have a brand bew Rancher 4x4, I have 600 K's on the bike. Today I was climbing a steep hill when the transmission cut out and made a really weird noise. Almost rolled the damn thing with complete power loss.

Sounded like a chain jumping off a sprocket or like it slipped off something. It seems to continue this under extreme stress only, riding trails is fine.

Anyone heard of this? Advice is appreciated.

Just did the 500 k service at the dealer.

Found this old thread:

Something I caught wind of to-day at work is that the Honda 400 AT owners will be all getting a recall notice in the mail about the onboard computer as well as the clutches but PLEASE !!!!! wait till you get the notice in the mail. I'm really not supposed to say anything about this yet
